All hardware has limits. Which ones are you hitting every day?

- RAM: 32GB is just not enough. I have firefox open with a mere 60-ish tabs and RSS is already at 21GB. I add my IDE and building a c++ app at -j10 and I start getting OOMs left and right, I have to close my browser whenever I build.

- Graphics: the GPU and compute capabilities are definitely not there when comparing to NVidia mid-range offering, it's more akin to a laptop 2060.

- Can only do 3 video outputs at most while there are enough hardware outputs for 5.

The CPU is definitely fast though !

Gamer + Linux is asking for trouble though.

At least these days - it means asking for less trouble. It really is improving leaps and bounds. But I still dual boot on my gaming PC, but I run a lot of games on Linux in compatibility mode and it works well a reasonable amount of the time.

Been using Pro products for almost 15 years and I just switched to a Lenovo Thinkpad and Ubuntu. This is so much more fun and innovative. Apple reached a plato, you can like it or not.

You hit the nail on the head. And it’s something virtually everyone else replying to you is completely missing. Apple isn’t perfect. They’re not better at privacy than some absolutist position where you run Tails on RISC V, only connect to services over Tor, host your own email, and run your own NAS. You miss the point. It's not that I enact authority over my system in every detail all the time, but I want the ability to choose authority on the aspects that matter to me in a given circumstance.

I suspect that like many here, I’m often tech support for my family.

I found a Mac to be just as simple and troublefree to support as a Chromebook, but more capable.

I was very pleasantly surprised, coming from mostly Windows (and a dash of Linux).

Whats the alternative? Linux? Maybe OP likes that their OS doesnt crash when they close their laptop lid.

Crash? I understand people's gripes with ui, hardware compatibility, etc, but stability? All my Linux machines have always been very stable.

How true is this when they devices are increasingly hostile to user repair and upgrades? I can neither repair nor upgrade my electric car, my furniture, or my plumbing. But they all still belong to me.

This is due to your capabilities as an individual, not the possibilities surrounding the items themselves.
