> But will remain anonymous and are okay with the collateral damage. Have you worked at a tech company in 2026? Plenty of engineers, born in India/China and working in Silicon Valley, are openly anti-immigration. And I also support them since I agree with them. Pull up the ladder once you’ve made it. Nothing new.

This is not X or blind. You created a new account just to post drivel?

Tell me you don’t work at a tech company, without telling me you don’t work at a tech company

The pro maga crowd has learned to take a less obvious, but just as callous approach to commenting over the last 6 months. They are trying to subtly slide the overton window in their direction.

Hilarious. My comment was replying to another comment that was discussing a different case, not the one in the article. Yet you throw around insults and labels at me. Who is the callous one here?

“Nuh uh you.”

Quite the rebuttal.

The leaving part is not the issue, as you try to immigrate into a country you're subject to the rules that country sets. You're always free to not immigrate into that country (this is not about asylum). The issue here is that, if you just left the country to do everything the country asked you, you are now in limbo. For how long? No one can tell. Does this mean you lose your job? Maybe. And when you decide it's no lo…

The country wants you to leave and then get’s to decide if you can come back. That’s how it’s designed. On purpose. You’re approaching it from a perspective where you’re being asked to leave and your reentry is a right. It’s not. They never said,…

My company has a H-1B guy that travelled home to India a few months ago and since then can't come back because the next date he can get with the US embassy is next year. Seems he may get stuck even longer... I am to some degree on board with keeping a closer eye on immigration, but the way the current administration does it feels intentionally cruel. The guy at my company has a house, wife, and kids in the US; his vi…

It IS intentionally cruel because Stephen Miller is a sadistic psycho.

You're getting downvoted but this is literally true.

> According to The Atlantic, while helping Trump prepare for a debate in 2024, Miller got into an argument with an ally on immigration. Trump reportedly said, "Stephen... if you had it your way, everyone would look exactly like you", to which Miller replied "That’s correct". In another incident reported by The New York Times, Trump told a campaign meeting that Miller only wanted 100 million people who looked like him to live in the United States.

Name one country, then. None that I'm aware of require you to leave the country to renew an immigration visa. Switching from a visitor visa to an immigration visa, sure. But if you're already on an immigration visa or residence permit, it's normally expected that you are, well, an immigrant. That your home, domicile, center of vital interests, whatever you want to call it, is in the country. I know of immigration sys…

Ireland, Nigeria

Is that true? Immigrants into Ireland hold an Irish Residence Permit, which is renewed in Ireland, at the office in Ireland. No need to leave Ireland.

I think many (if not most) countries in the developed world should reduce immigration, and usa in particular should abolish birthright citizenship. The first because a lower supply of labor is going to create breathing space for an entire working population who will see tremendous job upheaval due to AI automation. A lower aggregate demand on houses, services will also be welcome to take the fuel out of inflation, an…

straight up lying and doomer boomer mentality, sad and gross. very consistent correlations between migrants being net positive economic providers, more law abiding then native citizens, and just straight up regurgitating racist myths mass deportations won’t solve anything economic when it’s the same admin hamstringing prices and rates with tariffs, war, and defacto support of the oligopoly i really wish basement dwel…

Rather than rights and privileges, think about the economic consequences of this. People will stop coming here for advanced study for advanced research and for advanced industry jobs. And most institutions and companies will accommodate this and try to have such people work from where they are vs fight an onerous government to bring them here. The net result will be damage to the US economy

Our scientists are already leaving. Now we're preventing new ones from entering.

This is how you become the Kingdom Of Dumbasses.

The moral issue is the same in both cases: there’s a big sign that says “temporary.” People have chosen to ignore the sign.

Do you think the moral issue is the same if someone fails to hold a door for you, or if they shoot you? It’s rude either way, right? I don’t have words for it, but the US has been infected with some kind of hybrid reductionism / nihilism where people think that vicious bad behavior can be enjoyed and justified, even righteously glorified, if a disingenuous analogy can somehow be crafted to something banal and compara…

> The leaving part is not the issue, as you try to immigrate into a country you're subject to the rules that country sets. The ultimate uncertainty is that regardless of who you are and what you do, a country always has the right to kick you out when you are there on a visa regardless of what the rights and rules of that visa. Nothing is guaranteed ultimately.

Your claim could be shortened to: >The ultimate uncertainty is that regardless of who you are and what you do, a country always has the right to kick you out...Nothing is guaranteed ultimately. Which is what makes the actions of the government so disturbing. What made the USA so attractive (the rules, the decorum, the civility) is gone. While there were a great many injustices, in general, it trended toward getting b…

Depends on whether you think international law still exists and is followed - statelessness isn't allowed under that.
