That's because there isn't any data yet, at least not enough from real patients to be meaningful. I would love to see some of the raw imaging data they have generated though, if that's what you mean.

Good question. Trying to 'steel-man' MJ's approach, that was the only possible benefit vs the existing Butterfly product which I hadn't crossed out yet, so I asked the only actual radiologist here about the possibility of having additional receivers off-axis from the emitter (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48590631).

But frankly, I'm losing interest trying to glean what someone might be thinking, when they're being so intentionally opaque while making such grandiose vague claims. The bottom line is, if they really thought this way of nerfing Butterfly's chip '9-steps back' with disadvantages, would truly unlock 12-steps forward in actual medical imaging utility, they wouldn't be launching it as a 'feature' of a vanity spa with nothing but vague 'tech visionary' puffery.

to be fair I wouldn't call people operating AI Image generators creative people. At best they're people curious about the technology itself, anybody willing to learn and do it for the sake of being creative does it themselves.

This is just complete nonsense. You really think creative people are not interested in new forms of visual expression? This as simply being ignorant of art history.

From what I gather the hatred for AI among musicians and artists is pretty universal. I can only speak for myself. but for me and the way that I draw and make music AI can only replace, never complement my creative process.

What does "more useful" mean in this context? Can you solve gas-filled bowels with the mode difference?

Full wave inversion uses all of the information from the wave and more intense computational tomography to image structures that pulse wave B mode cannot, though gases are still a problem. Computationally, if you squint, it's similar to the work Midjourney does with AI image generation, as it progressively generates a structure that fits the data.

Ultrasonic waves can penetrate most structures in humans, including the brain. For example, with focused ultrasound (as they mentioned with MRgFUS) you can burn specific structures in the middle of the brain without any incision.

To use this for imaging, you need lots of transducers (MRgFUS typically uses 1024 for ablation, and Midjourney is proposing 358,000 for imaging) and massive advances in computational tomography capabilities. There will still likely be pockets of low confidence where there's a lot of air, like in the lungs. But with sufficient information on what's happening around those areas, you'd still have something that's medically useful.

What warming feeling? An MRI shouldn't really make you feel warm unless they're pushing IV contrast.

You can definitely feel it in your body, I mean you have metals in you. I definitely feel tingling and general sense of something nearly touching my skin and insides.

The way we figure out how to catch issues before you notice them (i.e. proactively keeping you healthy) and figure out the best ways to fix them (i.e. reactively helping you get back to healthy) is by having more data from more people in more situations, so we can make those determinations. I understand some of the current fatigue around biohacking and chasing perhaps-irrelevant metrics, but takes like this surprise…

data without theories is not, in general, useful. Also the salient data in the human body is at several different size scales - centimeters is ok, millimeters is good, much goes on at the micrometer and ångström scales (blood type, mitochondria, receptor shapes, expressed proteins, etc.). If this company was a bunch of biology grad students getting the AI bug, I'd be hopefully curious, but for a bunch of "generate images" folks to try to go back from low-res images to biology, seems a bit naive. Like not knowing how much DNA and RNA information there is in the body naive. I'm sure their leaders are good at financial engineering, but for effectively "proactively keeping you healthy", mmm, maybe not.

Also, we know a bunch of stuff to proactively keep us healthy but we tend not to do them very consistently when they are at odds to the normal conditions of our living - it's very easy to sit too much, neglect family and friends, eat calorie dense foods, not sleep enough, never walk 8 kilometers to get our daily bread, ingest a variety of synthetic compounds of proven bioactivity, smoke, etc. etc. etc.

As long as the pool is saying "get this thing cut out" we'll do it, but when it says, you should cut back to 30 hours of work a week and call people to hang out with more often, we'll ignore it.

I understand your point, and I might even agree to some extent. However, the issue is that this isn't presented as an opportunity to do research, but as commoditizing a clinical test that, when it isn't done for medical reasons (i.e., investigating some existing symptoms), can lead to a lot of false positives.

This is exactly why it's a bad idea. I agree that if this technology comes to fruition, it should be in every clinical and research setting as a tool for us to further our understanding. It shouldn't be a commodified test anyone can do at any time they feel like it. There are so many examples this leading to over or misdiagnosing already. Understood; these are the failure modes of cheap, weak tests in a system designed for expensive, high signal tests. I get that it is causing a real pain when these are introduced willy-nilly -- so is there a way for the medical system to evolve into making productive use of such signals?

Because the status quo is not working for a lot of folks in managing their own health, and just saying "it has to be this way" --while every other aspect of their life takes advantage of a wider range of options -- leaves them careening into MAHA style crazyness .

I read the site and it seemed pretty clear? It's a 3d, transparent, high res image of your whole body reconstructed from the wave data from a large number of high frequency ultrasound scans. But it's also a high end spa in San Francisco that softly scans your body. Then, you uh, do as you want with the data (presumably show it to your doctor, who will be perhaps bemused)?

Sometimes I cannot wrap my mind around how funny people can be and how utterly humorless HN has become with its downvoting. @dang this is valid for the community too!

I guess the key quality of the best humour is that everyone can see the humour in it; at least appreciate the joke even if they didn't agree with the underlying point. At best it makes them rethink what they previously thought about the topic. Much of what is offered as humour online (and also mainstream television) is theatrical rage, which generates laughs and applause (a.k.a. 'clapter') from people who already shared the rage, but to those not already on side it just falls flat. That seems to me what's going on here.
