I'm not a fan because it makes the change log mostly issue tracking and not actual changes.
Using a separate Git repo with a defined naming structure I could appreciate.

I feel like MS went out of its way to make a point that GitHub and NPM would be independent orgs that no longer had to worry about making keep-the-lights-on money. Gitlab? Three distinct codebases is quite a lot to be honest. Especially when Forgejo has the lineage of Gitea and Gogs in its wake.
Doh, I completely forgot about GitLab. OK so that's 3 services. I'm only counting hosted services that aim at serving all comers and providing an entire platform similar to GitHub. Individual disconnected instances, while useful, aren't a replacement for the social aspect of GitHub.
I think both gitlab and forgejo are working on federation.

Yeah I agree. I'm not going to pick on someone for having an unhealthy relationship with a product such that they get weepy when it goes downhill. But I do hope he recognizes how unhealthy it is, and works to improve that.

This is not good intentioned, you're a jerk, and it's 100% fine (and healthy) to care about things in life.
There is absolutely nothing normal or healthy about being so attached to a source control repo that you cry when you replace it. I'm not saying OP is right about testosterone levels (how the hell would I know, I'm not a doctor), but everyone telling Mitchell "it's ok to feel things" is doing him a grave disservice. He has a very unhealthy attachment to Github and he needs to work on it, not have people validate his unhealthy behavior.
