I cannot comprehend how half of Americans are fine with this corrupt leader? He even does this bizarre maffia like deals out in the open for his own interest, that's how confident he is no one will say anything The message is clear from his circus administration, you can do anything as long as you bribe them

I know HN viscerally hates crypto, and yes Trump is embarrassingly corrupt, but the charges against CZ were a greater wrong than whatever quid pro quo happened in the pardon. This is the most embarrassing part of all of it. The US is ping ponging between two very different ways of misusing state power. CZ was charged with violating a highly technical US securities law that is not common to most countries despite not…

I don’t think the problem is HN’s hate of crypto - it’s the horrendously ignorant takes like these that people dislike.

Surely you don’t believe that CZ was charged for shits and giggles, just because he happened to make a website that Americans use?

The pardon power has been so abused these past few administrations that it's clear there should be constitutional changes in the pardon power, either congressional review, or strip it altogether.

The way this is going, the President won’t need using any pardon powers, because the judges will all ask the President what the judgement should be in advance. And the prosecutors will ask who to prosecute. Finally only fair justice!

Yeah we already have judgments that the executive branch has gone well beyond it's allowed limits and the majority of SCOTUS stance has been:

"Yeah well let the legal process play out ... in the meantime our guy gets to do whatever he wants, and you're still fired / kicked out of the country / funding cut / an so on".

If it is at all inconvenient for the most powerful folks in the country, they get any limits on their actions protected by SCOTUS ... at the cost of the people.

There should be a limit on the number of pardons a president can do during their tenure so that they have to at least think a bit before using it. It is a very powerful tool that actually allows a last resort. But this kind of egregious abuse of it's power means it needs to be kept in check.

Lincoln pardoned basically the entire Confederacy. I'm not sure what the expert opinion is on that but it seems legit.

>In the physical world, the Biden admin gleefully abolished the police. When did this happen?

How does a seemingly intelligent person reach such an empty conclusion?

Bad faith or possibly seeming intelligent != being intelligent.

Which congress do you want doing that review? The past several congresses have been unqualified to do any sort of constitutional reviewing in my opinion.

The U.S. is running an outdated installation of democracy. The French approach of just rebooting and reinstalling the entire thing seems like a good idea at this point. Except the populace is already badly split into warring camps.

Heh, a balkanized USA, or one with different warlords like Afghanistan, would be interesting to see...

"In this region, I'm the ruler, and here we believe in TERF!".

Submarines generally aren’t fishing.

And we're ok with murdering dozens of people that might maybe have some kind of drugs on them? In peacetime? Without evidence? Outside of our own territory/water? We're lucky Venezuela hasn't attacked us back yet.

Your doubt in US intelligence and military capability shows. Venezuela attacking US assets would result in swift, almost instantaneous elimination of the threat.

The speed boats hauling ass in international waters are known smugglers on known routes using customized craft only drug smugglers use.

Policy of vaporizing these boats with weapons is both a) fairly effortless target practice for our military and b) puts major financial strain on that drug cartel operation.

I am having trouble understanding the rational for these pardons. The best I can come up with is that they've decided that there is literally nothing that would cause them to lose the support of Republican voters, and the actions are being instigated by right wing trolls.

The point being, no money laundering was pointed out to the court, although I sure this happened to some scale. Binance works with the police, before and after the conviction, it's not a laundromat like some Russian cryptocurrency exchanges. But you are right the AML controls were weak, and CZ was convicted for this. KYC requirements arrived to Binance very late. But they were not convicted of fraud (like Sam Bankman…

Compare with TD bank, that laundered money for the cartels - AFAIK nobody is in prison.

That should be addressed as well.

If one leaves all integrity and morals the president of the richest country in the world can really amass a ton of wealth. I actually suspect that the shares the “US” government s getting from intel and other companies actually goes to trump somehow. Everything is up for sale with this administration. Just sad, the high moral ground the country occupied is just wiped out and it’s now just like any other corrupt Asian…

Hey, corruption is rampant on each and every continent, except Antarctica. Asia is not the worst by far. Why are you singling out Asia specifically?

The U.S. is VMS. France is BeOS. The former actually does work regardless of how kludgy it is.

They’re both obsolete?
