Try second order thinking or thinking into the future. This company that built much of the modern web and created trillions in value. It's like the communists that just nationalize companies and institutions after they come into power thinking that wealth is just something that spontaneously comes into existence and can be captured with no ill effects.

Oppressive governments often ban Meta and other social media. But somehow Meta helps these governments.

I disagree; this wristband might be a game changer because your hand does not need to be free to use it (at least in theory, we'll see how it actually plays out). Also, I'm willing to bet that for some people, this wristband might be more accessible than a regular keyboard (i.e. people with limited mobility or missing hands). Compare it to the laser beam keyboard, which is just a flat version of a regular keyboard.

Keyboards in general have become more popular, as more and more people get computing devices. I'm willing to bet the increase of keyboards on screens is much greater than the increase of mechanical keyboards; there are far more smartphones than mechanical keyboards.

Not the same. Internet and recipe websites solve a real problem: accessing recipes was expensive and not easy AR headsets don't solve any problems. If anything, they make up a nonexistent problem, attempts but fails to solve the problem, during which the experience becomes even worse.

I mean, depends on how you describe it. One could easily say:

Phone method:

* Find phone

* Search for the right app, before finding the right recipe

* Leave my phone on counter, constantly having to move it as I move plates, pans etc.

* Wash and dry hands after each step, before unlocking phone

* Clean it every time gunk gets to it

Meta glasses:

* They're already on, just ask for recipe

* No need to ever wash/dry hands, move a device around, or clean it since one can easily unlock it without touching it

Right? Similarly with cookbooks, the best case is great and the worst case is terrible. There's a reason there's a market for recipe websites, cookbooks, etc.

How do your friends feel when you are having a conversation and you are constantly pointing a camera at them?

A friend of mine got a pair, they get this light when theyre in use but you can't quickly tell what's happening. Are they taking a picture, a video, or just conversing with the AI?

I find it annoying, ofc, he's my friend so I could tell him not to take "candid pictures" of me (I generally just don't like people taking pictures of me).

But you would have no control whatsoever on the street and it would be very difficult to know that someone you've passed on the street has or hasn't taken a picture of you.

Bone conduction headphones will give you the same audio experience with better battery life and usb-c charging. I think a lot of people don't want to "feed the beast" and reward Meta for their terrible impact on society.

My wife loves bone conduction, but to me it sounds terrible. Makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong or if my bones just suck

There's a pretty bright light that turns on when the camera is recording, and if you try and cover the light the camera won't work. Their existing glasses are pretty popular and there haven't been big compaints about it. If you really wanted to do secret recordings there are plenty of better and cheaper glasses in the market for it.

There are several videos showing you can easily cover or disable the LED with no loss in functionality.

I think it's sort of important to remember scifi student films like this [1]. Just to remember that, it seems that this is where we're going towards to.

And it freaks me out a little.

Your bones so not suck, but positioning makes a huge difference.

How much did you play around with them?

Also try them with earplugs.
