I'd argue they hide their takeaway because of what GP comment said — not because of anything innate, but because a staff member will not let them. I grew up in an Asian household of six. We definitely took food home at AYCE places. #866With all the credit, my extra usage is now a pretty large amount!
During a recent subscription upgrade, the system started burning through my extra usage at an enormous visible clip.
So -ironically perhaps- I've turned off extra usage completely, turned off auto-reload, and -should current trends persist- will probably end up with the extra credit still on balance by the time I delete the account.
That said, I currently don't see a viable alternative to Anthropic for me - yet. I'm actively looking, and other options are improving rapidly.

#867I never got OpenClaw and I'm unsure what this means exactly. Would it be just that you can't put your Anthropic API Key/credentials in OpenClaw and use it?
Sounds like something easy to bypass, if it's just that.

What you're saying is conceptually true for subscription services in general, but thats not why they are making this change. There's a 5 hour limit and a weekly limit. Those are hard token limits. Everyone on a plan pays for the max set of tokens in that plan. The limits manage capacity. The solution to that isn't a change of ToS, it's adjusting the limits. No, it is priced correctly. Just because outliers can be money-losing doesn’t mean you should raise the price for everyone.

Usage will be roughly a bell curve. Losing money on the extreme upper end is NOT a reason to raise prices for everyone, because that will decrease overall revenue (see: price elasticity).
ToS is the right knob here. When 0.05% of your customers use your product in a way that increases your costs 10,000%, you find ways to stop that. You don’t amortize the cost increase across everyone else.
