Personally, I've never actually heard this problem. Do you watch industry-specific videos in a non-anonymized browser session enough? Once you watch, like, 5 videos on topics you care about, the algorithm has no shortage of astute suggestions.

I'm not the person you're replying to but in my experience the YouTube algorithm is quite bad at filling my wish for a variety of topics and tone at all levels. I feel like watching one or two clips from the same channel suddenly floods me with that going forward which is rarely what I want. Personally I have a core set of things I want lots of plus I'd really appreciate brief forays into new topics with similar crea…

You can remove videos from your viewing history. I do this when I start watching something but the content turnes out to not be what I expected. It seems to prevent polluting my recommendations.

My Dad is elderly and he enjoys writing. Uses Google Gemini a few times a week. I always warn him that it can hallucinate and he seems to get it. It's changed his entire view of computing.

My father says "I feel like I hired an able assistant" regarding LLMs.

That's curious. Large corporations wind up creating internal policies, controls, etc. If you know anyone who works in engineering at Google, you'll find out about the privacy and security reviews required in launching code. Startups, on the other hand, are the wild west. One policy one day, another the next, engineers are doing things that don't follow either policy, the CEO is selling data, and then they run out of…

Why do you think OpenAI is more trustworthy than Google?

Mainly because I see moral alignment and I see Sam Altman as a person of good moral standing. I don’t see any perception of morality from Google, just a faceless mega corporation.

That is troubling. What happens if he leaves then?

Cult of personality is blinding. But I could be wrong in my interpretation. Would you be able to put what that moral standing is about in prose without engaging in public figure examples?

Gemini is really good, dev is happy, cost is low, but the mass just don't use it, The UX feels...weird(in my opinion), and Google marketing just sucks. Look at the craze of GPT-4o image gen launch, Pretty sure none of that will ever happened with Gemini(which tbf, have extremely good imagen too!) They have weird too-careful-and-afraid-to-step-on-someone-toes approach to marketing, and that shows.

OpenAI have Sam as 'presenter' that people can hear him talk enthusiastically, Grok have Elon, even though that not really help much. Gemini? just AI product from faceless mega corporate. People don't feel relate to that. The emotion is part of equation of why people use something, not just function.

Also doesn't help with ChatGPT name already cemented in AI history. Every Bob and Jane heard about ChatGPT even they're use it once, but Gemini...who?

Google is also terribly paranoid of the LLM saying anything controversial. If you want a summary of some hot topic article you might not have the time to read, Gemini will straight up refuse to answer. ChatGPT and Grok don't mind at all.

I have the same experience in the web UI. Asking for that famous Obama chili recipe gets a refusal. But when I use the API, I can dial back the safety settings to the point where things work much more smoothly.

Your experience and mine are polar opposite. We use search differently is the only way I can reconcile that.

Yes. I am concerned about getting a correct answer. For this I want to see websites and evaluate them. This takes less energy than evaluating each sentence of an LLM response.

Often my searches take me to Wikipedia, Stack Overflow, or Reddit, anyway. But with LLMs I get a layer of hallucination on TOP of whatever misinformation is on the websites. Why put yourself through that?

I periodically ask ChatGPT about myself. This time I did get the best answer so far. Thus it is improving. It made two mistakes, but one of them comes directly from Wikipedia, so it's not a hallucination, although a better source of information was available than Wikipedia. As for the other one, it said that I made "contributions" to a process that I actually created.

Only a small percent of people will actually produce ideas that other people are interested in. For most people, AI tools for building things will enable them to construct their own personalized worlds. Imagine watching movies, except the movies can be generated for you on the fly.
