It's interesting how positive the commentary is here. I am generally much more pro-AI than the average HN commentator, but frankly I find this release completely underwhelming. Just replace Siri with chatgpt and give it actions, that is what everyone wants - why can't we have that?
Absolutely no one wants to hand their private information to any company, especially OpenAI. Everyone was waiting for an on-device LLM from Apple and they delivered.

Young people already seem bothered by how pristine/flawless modern photography looks and seem increasingly obsessed with using film cameras/camcorders to be more authentic or whatever pleasing attribute they find in that media. The AI/Cartoony person being sent as a birthday wish was super cringey, like something my boomer father would send me. I'm a fan of genmoji. That looks fun. Less a fan of generated clip art and "images for the sake of having an image here", and way, way less into this "here, I made a cornball image of you from other images of you that I have" feature. It's as lame as Animoji but as creepy as deepfakes.
