I like self-checkout on balance. The stores have a lot more self-checkout stations than they had cashiers. Most of the time I'm buying less than a dozen or so items. The work of having to scan and bag them myself is hardly more than taking them out of the cart. Self checkout is just fine, except for UNEXPECTED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA.

Companies that use AI interviewer are either dodgy or dysfunctional.

The smartest thing you can do is to avoid them.

Wasn’t HR a large part of the tech layoffs a couple years ago?

It was at my BigTechCo except then they had to backfill and the people they got to replace them are frankly assholes compared to the people they laid off.

Coinbase is a biz built by people willing to sell shovels to the cryptocurrency speculators. They've already filtered themselves as folks with questionable morals. They're like a cigarette manufaturer.

seconded, I saw their job description and decided not to apply. i don't know what they are thinking, but I would not bat an eye if they added that employees are expected to "work 80h a week", and not take any of "unlimited PTO".

You're still missing it, we are not in a deadlock. Developed countries are in fact decarbonizing. China too is decarbonizing, though they're behind where the West is, but their goal is to peak their emissions by 2030. In fact, it's kind of the opposite of what you say—everyone is contributing fractionally to the solution . This is what climate doomers miss.

China is not decarbonising. It's emissions are rocketing up.

As someone who interviewed people for technical roles, I'd see that as a bad sign and answer: "Just tell me what you can think about." This isn't school where teachers give you trick questions and you fail if you misunderstand it. Thst is a badly phrased question. "What languages do you speak?", would be the question to ask.

Because even of you were thinking about spoken languages, what does "knowing" mean? I "know" Hungarian exists, I know how Hungarian sounds like, I know how Hungarian words look like, but that doesn't mean I speak or understand it. Now if it was clear they meant apoken languages we could infer from the context they want to know about our skills with different spoken languages and didn't read our CV, which at least where I am from always contains a languages level with a skill level (e.g. German A1, English B1)

So yeah interviewers can suck at their job.

There has always been an expectation that corporations are lying to us. What's so insulting about Coinbase here is they are not even trying to make their lies sound plausible anymore.
