Oh nice. I didn’t know about the Airplay 2 update, but I’ve been using an old Airport Express to airplay for this old audio receiver I have for ages. And I’ve got a spare I hold onto in case this one ever shits the bed.

And while we’re on the topic — its amazing how many hifi audio receivers I see being thrown away, stuff that is still top-of-the-line for sound quality, but is now considered “obsolete” purely based on connectivity options — ie not having a direct bluetooth/wifi ability, when one could easily buy a separate device for that and hook it up.

It literally runs a month on an hour's charge. A design that allowed charging the Apple Watch while wearing it would be much more advantageous.

I'd love a Mac-targeted ultra-wide at any size.

Unfortunately, there aren't any ultra-wide panels with 200dpi resolutions (Apple's version of retina for desktop). Most top out around 140dpi and therefore need to be run at scaled resolutions (i.e. blurry) for macOS.

Need to be run at a scaled resolution or have everything be bigger. I'd choose the latter.

People say this as if Apple hadn't already been adding USB-C to their iOS devices for several years. There were pretty good reasons for holding off USB-C for the iPhone. It was likely to alienate a good number of customers. I doubt Europe had anything to do with the timing.

I'm confused about how Europe didn't have anything to do with the timing. Apple switched exactly when Europe mandated it and criticized the mandate.

They switched a year earlier than mandated. There’s a very good chance it was actually already in the works.

It's to reduce unit costs, not engineering costs. They integrated an NVMe controller into the SoC and they can now just buy NAND chips instead of full SSDs. Soldering them to the board is just an asshole thing to do though, especially since these machines can't boot off of USB if the NAND dies. Surely some elastomer BGA sockets wouldn't cost that much.
