Your defense secretary the other day said, responding to a news article he didn't like: "the sooner Ellison buys it the better" [1].

I don't think this kind of media control happens anywhere in Europe, but prove me wrong.

Unless you're talking about former Soviet countries, that is part of Europe but culturally actually very different and much more aligned with Russia than all of western Europe

Your friends should know better. That their behavior is prevalent does not contradict that.

This answer really isn’t good enough. The providers can’t both aim to replace search and claim PhD level intelligence that will do all the jobs, but hide behind “it makes mistakes” in small print.

I think it's the fluency. Other tools fail visibly. A bad search result looks like a bad search result. A hallucinated quote reads exactly like a real one. There's no signal in the output itself that something is wrong. You have to go back to the source to check, and the whole point of using the tool was to not have to do that.

I've lost count of the interactions Ive had or witnessed in which a living breathing authority on a subject is ignored in favour of using voice recognition to ask an LLM the question first, or worse, second.
