Are you new to the internet, or the English language? This style has been done for several decades now, even before the internet, in various publications. Why do you think it's supposed to be a "step towards reduction of sexism"?

It's a very old and common stylistic device in literature.

I find it refreshing to read, but I also doubt it plays a major role in the 'reduction of sexism'.
