#83I was very confused about this video until I watched it with the sound on. The Tesla beeps at the driver clearly before the accident has occurred, but doesn't appear to decelerate until afterwards.
I disagree. Watch the horizon, e.g. by putting your mouse on it. During the beeping, well before the collision, the horizon moves upward suddenly, indicating that the nose of the Tesla is dipping due to sudden deceleration or braking.

SUVs are not as stable as cars with a lower height. Think about the typical race car which is designed for turning fast, something that requires stability: light, low and wide. SUVs? It can also be 20 km/h faster on wide straight roads but I still have to see that. I guess nobody is risking the bad press after the first accident at 150 km/h.

When the car is motionless (e.g. immediately after it has come to a stop from the emergency breaking), does the computer engage the breaks just soft enough so the car stays put? And would this reduce the impact from behind if it were to happen?
I'm curious if you really want the brakes on full when you get hit from behind. It seems the cars would start to crumple in place until firmly together and you overcome friction, getting launched. With the brakes off, you would immediately accelerate, but perhaps with a lesser initial burst. That's the decision I had to make one day. I saw a car coming to hit me from the rear. #87My understanding is that a lot of recent year car models at least in Europe come with a safety feature exactly like this. Here is the video promoting Skoda's "Front Assistant" feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ounFkvTuobY If Skoda has it I am sure that all other models in the VW Group's line (VW, Audi, Seat etc) should have it.
That's not the same. The Skoda video only shows detection of the car in front of you and responding to that. In this case the Tesla also bounces the radar under that vehicle and responds to the motion of the car in front of the car in front of you. If you watch the video again carefully, the Tesla alerts before the car in front brakes, because the car in front of that is braking.

I came down I-70 into Denver one time in a rented Ford Expedition. Wasn't going that fast, but when I hit the first curve, the body and frame started to really lean onto the outside suspension. I was scared to hit the brakes and cause it to pitch more, so I just barely touched them and had to let it drift into the next lane a bit. The turn went on forever!! Did I mention I was surrounded by motorcycles?
On the very same road I wrote about, I've been driving another car that couldn't turn at 90 km/h uphill without drifting outside. It was not a SUV. Suspensions setup is very important for safety: a car that can turn fast is a safer car. I tested an Audi TT on ice at low speed (ice tires) and it was like turning on asphalt. Other more normal cars, not really.
