Employee solidarity matters, but absent a legal constraint, I don’t think it’s a durable control.
If this remains primarily a political/corporate bargaining question, the equilibrium is unstable: some actors will resist, some will comply, and capital will flow toward whoever captures the demand.
In that world, the likely endgame is not "the industry says no," but organizational restructuring (or new entrants) built to serve the market anyway.
If we as a society want a real boundary here, it probably has to be set at the policy/law level, not left to voluntary corporate red lines.

I think avg(HN) is mostly skeptical about the output, not that the input is corrupt or ill-meaning in this case. Although with other companies, one can't even take their claims seriously. And in any case, this is difficult territory to navigate. I would not want to be in your spot.

I don't think that article makes a strong case; it deliberately phrases examples in the most ridiculous ways and pretends that this is a damning criticism of the phrase itself; it's 'you're telling me a shrimp fried this rice' but with a pretence of rationality.

They love their dictator until it backfires, that's a quite old story.
Google employees were generally pretty anti-Trump, it's the senior leadership and the recommendation algorithms that are pro-Trump.
I'd like to believe that Silicon Valley mgmt is Pro-Trump in the same way that Oskar Schindler was "pro Nazi".
You may not personally like who is in office, but you pretend to in order to survive.

Call me cynical, but given that Google is a publicly traded company and OpenAI having a trillion in spending commitments, I’m skeptical whether the leadership of those companies feel the same as their employees.
Yes. I did not forsee this at all, but if OpenAI face and existential threat with no path in 2026-2030 to maintain user base. Why can't they go to the contract generator of last resort, aka the Pentagon. It's what Elon has done with SpaceX and Grok.
And Google is already a DoD contractor. I remember back in the day there was some fuzz amongst employees that did not approve, but in the end that was just a very vocal minority and most people don’t care.
I suspect the same will happen here.

Idk man, from the outside anthropic looks a lot like openai with a cute redisgn and Amodei like Altman with a slightly more human face mask, the same media manipulation, the same vague baseless affirmations about "something big is coming and we can't even describe it but trust us we need more money"
They both work in the same market but they have pretty different careers and understandings.
