Exactly, i used to use microsoft products, until recently i switched all my machines to linux, i don't even use apple products, i have an M1 only just to test my software, for everything else it's a VM

My claims are objectives, from experience, and everything is documented and archived

To your blind fanboy eyes only the opposite can be true?, "apple sucks, microsoft is the best?"

You might be living in an alternate reality where "Windows Phone XAML Edition Pro 2004" is #1 in the charts, and the cloud native OS is "Windows Bloated Server Millenium 1914 Product of Seattle Hell Yeah Brother"

Yeah, they didn't even put the fan next to the heatsink on their later Intel laptops. I've seen some speculation that it might have been an attempt to make M1 look better by comparison, since the Intel chips weren't able to hit anywhere near the performance levels the same chip got on better-cooled laptops.

Then again, Apple has a long history of sacrificing cooling performance for form factor.

Oh yeah I won't miss it either but some people seem to hold rather extreme emotion over a touchbar :) . That said it is easy to be hyperbolic on the internet.

That's a year and seven months since M1 was released, so M3 is expected ? Jan. 2024? It'd be pretty rare for a January release, expect instead probably November 2023 or March 2024.

There's a joke here somewhere... all those poor M2 suckers when M3 is about to be released. Something like that.

On the software side things have gone so much worse though. You have the Swift compiler that uses heuristics which makes it unreliable (a compiler that times out!), and even Apples most basic software seems to crash constantly. If you have a budget Intel MacBook the compiling time are horrendous. Just yesterday the Contacts app on macOS crashed for me. I think Rosetta + Swift + SwiftUI might have been a bit much chan…

I made the mistake of opening Maps on Monterey a couple versions back. Instant kernel panic. (For fun, just tested in 12.4 and it works again!)

Most of my problems these days are with their bluetooth drivers, though. Anything with a bluetooth connection randomly reconnects throughout the day. Most annoying with the mouse and magic trackpad. (And while I appreciate suggestions, future posters, it still happens after a clean install / nvram clear, so it's unlikely to be configuration related).

It's hard to imagine needing this honestly. I'm typing this on an M1 air, and even on this chip it's so snappy and quick even on things like larger compilation jobs. I'm not on the super-power-user end, but imo the price/performance for the air, as well as the form factor seems to be a sweet spot.

This happens regardless of the peripherals. I usually have a wired keyboard and a wireless (with a usb dongle) mouse connected through a Caldigit TB4 hub. It is possible it might be some weird macOS/chrome/zoom bug and not necessarily an issue with the CPU itself though.

One thing that came to mind, which may be relevant to you or not, do you have the Whatsapp desktop client installed/running? A few months ago, an update seems to have screwed up something that made my Mac much slower and unresponsive when it was open (my gf and my ex had the same issues with WA, the moment they closed WA it was snappy again).

I do have it installed, but it usually isn't running. I'll uninstall it and see if that helps though. Thanks!

100% agree. The last generation of MacBook pros with intel processors were virtually unusable for zoom calls or any intensive processing power tasks.

Last generation?

Without too much unkindness, MacBooks have been like this since the 1990s.

Many people I know wouldn't have considered them for one second before the M1.
