Ironically, Chromebooks are the "freest" hardware you can get. They all support full-featured coreboot, including measured boot and verified boot.

But, full disclosure: printing and some peripherals or specialized apps might require additional setup. Like, with OpenBSD I don't have (or need) bluetooth support. But a person can probably find someone, online or in person, to help if/when needed. I have done such, at times.

It's about battery life and size/weight.

The faster a chip is, per watt, the fewer watts it needs to draw for the same amount of performance.
