I got into 2 crashes in a couple of weeks once: I was in the left lane, stopped, signaling to make a left turn, when someone rear ended me because they didn't notice me. I was stopped at a red light. The octogenarian behind me revved his engine, dropped into drive, and peeled out to rear end me a second time, because he “had places to be”. When I asked for his insurance, he drove off and I had to file a hit-and-run r…

Two in a short period of time is pretty sus though. You can be "minding your own business" and oblivious to the degree to which other traffic is having to actively avoid you. My elderly mother fits into this category.

Could be, but also could not be. Do you have reason to believe I could’ve caused the person behind me to peel out, run into me, flee the scene, go to court, pay for 100% of my damages, and lose his license for life? Or is it just fun to play the cynic?

I don't see nearly enough complexity in this analysis to justify the claim of having found any insurance fraud. Firstly, there's no account for correlation between the features identified. The article mentions VINs which have several single-vehicle accidents, for example, but someone who has one single-vehicle accident is probably more likely to have another. Switching coverage is another of those potentially-correla…

Also, anyone who lives in an area where there are deer (or, kangaroos in australia) will tell you - strange sounding single car crashes late at night or early in the morning.. aren't that strange, that's when the deer (or kangaroos) are out and about. Where I grew up if someone had hit a kangaroo 3 times in a year it would be strange sounding for sure, but not that strange.

Roos are most active around dusk usually rather than late at night I though.

You're wording it in high specificity like that specifically because you know, and know that everyone else knows that people who get into many accidents in a short period of time are typically poor drivers even if the specific circumstances of the accidents do not result in them paying for them. Sure, it might've just been bad luck, but that's what they all say.

You don't know me and have no reason to think I'm lying, but you've opted for cynicism.

This is not the path to happiness. I hope you have a better day today.

You don't have to tell me that ignorance is bliss.

I didn't say that you were lying, there's a reason I specifically cited obliviousness, though if the shoe fits...

So many alternative explanations unmentioned: 1. Drink/drugs impair your judgment, making you more likely to commit fraud if you were on the fence, or the impulsive sort. 2. Drunk drivers get into multiple accidents, but some are able to keep evidence of impairment off the record (buddy on the force or the insurance co, etc.) 3. Drivers doing drugs that aren't detectable on the spot, and clear the body quickly, reduc…

Or just snow. I'm pretty sure every doordash driver hits a dozen things sliding down hills in the winter around here. If you get lucky it doesn't really matter because the tree or rock isn't gonna care and the damage is cosmetic. If you aren't lucky whoever's mailbox or fence you hit files a claim.

yeah i didn't even think about doordash or uber drivers. A whole extra group of cars/people who will be wild outliers in driving stats even if they have the exact same skills.
