Yeah, I would actually expect most hardware like this to be running on some open-source OS, either Android (AOSP), Linux or some variant. I mean, even the hardware that Meta and Amazon produce are built on top of Android / Linux variants, so I would be surprised if smaller players were writing their own custom OS these days.
There is nothing worthy of criticism in the fact they choose android as a base.
