I bought a coffee farm in Colombia. Annualized it makes around $800 / month and growing. Should double to $1600 / month next year as we’ve doubled our production. It’s barely profitable, but is profitable nonetheless. The more we plant the more profitable it will get, and we’ll be planting 10,000 more trees soon!

Would love to hear more about how you got started. Any blog posts documenting this?

I mine cryptocurrency and make about $110/day. I have two L3++s, an AvalonMiner 1246, six RTX 3080s, an RTX 3090 and a couple older cards. It more than pays for the mortgage, and after electricity (residential rate) my profit is about $100/day. I also have the GPUs in a grow tent (designed for growing marijuana) with an 8 inch in-line fan hooked up to the supply of my home’s HVAC system. I’m heating my whole house wi…

I hate what you do (the very idea of all those KWs going to solve sudokus to get monopoly money) but at the same respect you. In the end if someone buys, why not sell.

I created an enhanced multilingual T9 keyboard[1][2] for iOS in 2014 to play around with Swift. It's been doing 600$ on average since then, still going strong. Still use it everyday myself and can't live without it [1] https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/typenine-ultimate-t9-style-k... [2] https://medium.com/porsager/a-better-iphone-typing-experienc...

Thank you for this. My dad has poor vision and clings to his failing t9 flip phone. He likes the flexibility of the iPhone but is concerned about the keyboard, it seems like this might be the solution he’s looking for

Interesting! I hope it can work out well for him - would love to hear about his experience if he gives it a shot. I've gotten good feedback from low vision and blind users, but I've also done my best trying to support VoiceOver in the most optimal way. If he uses VoiceOver, be sure to enable "Direct Touch Typing" in VoiceOver>Typing>Typing Style. Also be sure to go through the tutorials as that should give him the best start.

I have an Etsy store where I sell my illustrations. It doesn't make $500 every single month, but averaged over a year it is around that mark. I think I could grow the sales if I spent more time on it :-) https://www.etsy.com/shop/rithmdesignco/

You could make more sales, and grow your audience if you streamed the creation process. I'd love to watch you put one of these together and would pay for that.

That's the way! Nicely done. Can I ask what your power costs are? The problem is that in high population centers in the US, electricity costs make it not economical.

Pretty typical $0.1/kWH (on average, there are peaks and valleys like everywhere else). A lot of folks overestimate the actual power cost. Sure I’m pulling about 24A at 240V from the wall (over 6 kW) which costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $320/month. But the actual BTC I receive is worth over $3000/month assuming I sell it as I get it.

What’s super nice about mining is that it’s quite resilient to market trends. For example if crypto crashes 50% the number of transactions on the blockchain skyrockets (everyone either buying the dip or panic selling) which results in more cryptocurrency actually received from mining. The value of the coin can go down, but I get more of it.

As a passive revenue stream it’s actually quite beautiful. Just don’t forget to pay taxes!

I was looking into just getting a 3060 Ti for starting on my main CPU, do you recommend that or going for whatever gets a bigger hashing rate in one unit like the 3080 or 90 it seems, they are hard to get!

Thanks!

I don't know if I can even call it a side-project any more. I stopped working professionally 3 years ago.

Bought an e-commerce business that was making ~$2k/mo profit and ran it on the side while I had my DevOps job.

That project has now turned into ~$30k/mo profit, and I've bought two more e-com businesses that average ~$10k/mo between the two - these are early and I expect them to scale up once I smooth out a few bumps.

I go through phases of a lot of work, and next to no work. Depends if I'm busy on growing the businesses or just want to enjoy the income. I'm out of 95% of the day-to-day operations and I have a team of 3 that handle most things.

I sell on-demand Python and Data Science courses (my main gig is corporate training). I make around $2000 a month from them. (a little more than self published and published books and more than publishing courses on third party platforms). https://store.metasnake.com

great! may I ask, what platform do you use for selling your courses?

I designed a healthier men's dress shoe and was able to gain close to $100K in preorders in a Kickstarter this past September; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oaka/oaka-the-worlds-he... . Hopefully it doesn't stay a side project for too much longer, fingers crossed.

Made a Rubik's cube kind of game for phones ( http://eclidus.com ) with my buddy and sales were at that level for a while. Then they died down, I couldn't be bothered to market it so I made it available for free. :) I'll probably try something similar again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is there a pattern similar to an actual rubik's cube that allows for "speed" solves?
