No. WebSockets are a specific protocol tunneled over HTTP, not raw sockets, and WASM doesn't expose any functionality which wasn't already available to JS.

Yeah ftp support should be backed in the operating system. In KDE, it's simple to open an ftp link in Dolphin as if it was a local folder and I think it's the same for GNOME, but I have no idea about if it's possible in macOS and windows.

I've used FTP, fairly heavily back at an old job that required it, but I have an FTP client. They are a dime a dozen for every platform. But I haven't used FTP at all in at least a decade.
Mozilla should focus their efforts in their web browser on web browsing. If you need to FTP, Gopher, or torrent over the internet, you can grab a client that does those things.
I expect this to have very little impact on anything.
Check out NCBI, terabytes of public data are being shared on FTP servers. There are other protocols/APIs, but FTP has been a much better experience in many use cases. Those files are also linked all over the place in NCBI pages and elsewhere.

It's old, but "ftp://" is a valid uri scheme that has established use, and lots of valid links on existing, live web pages. Browsers removing support are breaking part of the web that was working fine.
It's an edge case these days though as more are moving to https:// links so I can understand the browser vendors wanting to make the code base smaller. They have enough to do. Especially for Mozilla given what they charge for us to use their product.

Mozilla is the last organization keeping us from the complete takeover of the web by Google/Webkit and they seem to be held to an impossibly high standard by users. There's no FTP support in Chrome, there's terrible support for Adblock, there's telemetry, etc, but somehow Mozilla has to be 100% perfect. This is why we can't have nice things and why the internet is going to become Chrome-first.
