Even if we think video games are essential, and even if we think physical video games are essential, they could close and only do delivery, much as many restaurants are only doing drive-through and delivery orders.

There is no good reason to think that the social benefit of having a physical retail store open where customers are cheek-to-jowl with each other and with staff somehow outweighs the community transmission we will certainly experience.

Since things started shutting down here in WA, and I’m kind of house-bound due to recent surgery, I’ve managed to not only buy video games but an entire console (finally bought that Switch), all without leaving my house. And, no, of course I didn’t buy it from GameStop. They’re still in business?

Frankly, this comes off as pathetic regardless, they can do what they want. But essential? I can’t download groceries, but name me a game platform that requires physical media.

I probably missed a few news cycles, but what Musk and Bezos do you would class as disgusting during this crisis? I heard Tesla is going to produce ventilators?

I used to be Elon's fanboy until very recently, but I can't really explain his recent coronavirus tweets, saying that the panic is dumb, children don't get it, or that it'll all be over by April. He's the last person on the planet I'd suspect of not getting the basic math behind the infection, or the basic facts of it.

Doesn't change the vile and egocentrical nature of this business decision.

There are many reasons why GameStop should finally die. Exposing their employees to the current danger in order to remain operational to continue selling games is just one more.

If having "products people may want during this time" is the criteria we used to determine if a store should remain open, no stores would close.

This is a numbers game. We want most stores closed to limit the number of people out and engaging with each other. There will be fuzzy edge cases such as large retailers like Walmart and Target being open and selling particular items, while the stores that specialize in those items are closed. That's fine. The goal is not some sort of retail fairness, but public health.

This is completely off-topic. This virus came from bats and most was mostly likely transferred to pangolins that were illegally killed and traded.
