As an European, I would rather get spied on by the US than by China.
Also as a European ... actually as a human ... I'd very much prefer to prohibit anyone spying on me. Europeans have seen first hand what totalitarianism means, even if it masquerades itself as freedom ;)
I just finished reading 'AI Superpowers' and I hardly understand now if US has any single chance to compete with China's Tech fairly, openly, democratically, with respect.
Chinese tech is impotent, so there's a fair chance for America.

I used to live there and they don't really know MIT in China. I'd say only among the academics. Certainly not a household name.
