Cool initiative, but companies that have state government as clients would not agree to a federally hosted cloud based service.
I think the potential for cloud.gov is to expand to other federal agencies, not private companies.

One of the strangest things I've run across on Reddit is a group of people with a kind of thalassophobia (fear of the sea) that is focused on man-made things under or partially submerged in water. They call it submechanophobia and share pictures of such things to spook each other out on their subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/submechanophobia).

(I work at USDS@VA) I wouldn't say it's a philosophical difference. We're definitely tackling the problem in two different ways, but that's not because either group thinks the other is wrong, it's because this is a big problem that requires attacking it from many angles.

Yes, that is the scope and intent for now, although there is potential for state agencies to make use of it as well.

What is it like working for 18F? Office space, flexibility of hours, commute, workstation, work attire, etc? Would someone who prefers the startup atmosphere survive for long?

How are you finding Cloud Foundry? Is it good? I've looked quickly at it, but unlike (say) Heroku, found it hard to know where to start to host a simple app.
