Does that mean it's illegal for another voice actor to (according to some) sound similar to a character from a poplar movie? No. All of these things can be true together

Pretty sure the CEO of OpenAI tweeted "Her." after the reveal of the voice. Isn't that a suggestion that what they're doing is similar to "the Her AI"?

Yes, the unprecedented conversational functionality of the GPT-4o demo could be compared to the AI in the movie. Why assume that the tweet was about the voice sounding like Scarlett Johansson?

Every single thing in your second paragraph is directly contradicted by the article at hand, yet you say them like they are established facts as opposed to things you just made up.

No, I read the article.

WaPo's reporting states that the individual in charge of the interaction, Jang, modeled it after Hollywood movies, and worked with a film director specifically to accomplish this goal. And the executive responsible for the artistic decisions, CTO Murati, was conveniently not made available for WaPo to interview.

OpenAI has no credibility here, given its extensive history of dissembling as a company. If Her and SJ weren't the driving inspiration for the Sky voice, they would have made Murati available to explicitly refute those claims. Her absence speaks volumes.

And OpenAI dropping Sky immediately speaks even louder. It means that somewhere there is a smoking gun that would destroy them in court. [Edit: it turns out the smoking guns were already public: in addition to the CEO's Her tweet, his co-founder Karpathy explicitly linked the voice product to SJ. Game. Set. Match.]

Sure, no-one is disputing that, and despite this Altman then contacts SJ again two days before release asking her to reconsider, then tweets "her" to remind the public what he was shooting for. The goal could have just been ChatGPT with a voice interface, but instead Altman himself is saying the the goal was specifically to copy "her".

He's not necessarily saying that was the goal from the start. All he is admitting with that tweet is that it is indeed (he finds it to be) reminiscent of "Her".

Even if the voice actor was sourced before they originally contacted SJ, it was clearly the intent to sound like her. There are so many other distinctive voices they could have chosen, but instead they decided to go as close as possible to "her" as they could. Many people thought it was SJ until she stated it wasn't. I appreciate the voice actor may sound like that naturally, but its hardly coincidental that the voice that sounds most like the voice from "her" was the one chosen for their promotion. It is clearly an attempt to pass-off.

I can't say much about that particular voice because I almost never used chatGPT's voices. They are too slow.

I need 1.5x speeds even if I have to use a worse voice. I am a TTS power user, listening to all online text since 2010s. Maybe GPT-4o has a more flexible voice, perhaps you can just ask it to speak faster.
