I'd say it's a repeated observation of something incredibly consistent, whenever these discussions (and others) come up, more than a blind assumption. My prediction of your response, and you precisely following that prediction, being evidence that both of us have done this before. Maybe that pattern is intentional, or maybe it's emergent. I'll also claim to know the next part of the pattern, but I don't think you can…

Often here people mistake plausibility for reasonability, I'm not surprised to see it occur here as well. You aren't being reasonable. None of your post is reasonable. You are relying upon plausible deniability to make your point, but it's entirely counter to the purpose of conversing here where we are supposed to try to make an effort to understand each other. I will repeat my point that when discussing a particular…

Notice the extreme and complete change in your tone, and even phrasing! It's like your a completely different person.

> we are supposed to try to make an effort to understand each other.

My first comment was asking for clarification, so discussion could be had. You made no efforts, and resisted, until now.

> I will repeat my point that when discussing a particular element of the news

As my first comment stated, the problem is that no particular element was discussed. I suggest re-reading this thread.

The rest of your post is a textbook example of gaslighting, so I'm choosing to remove myself from this thread now. But, I sincerely wish the best for you.

No change in my tone nor my point.

>My first comment was asking for clarification, so discussion could be had. You made no efforts, and resisted, until now.

I literally offered an example that fit.

Yawn.

Be gaslight, then. It's all projection from you anyway.

AI is not good at telling jokes. When it's funny, it's because it says something almost human but clearly missing something, in a surreal and hilarious way.

Good humor is quite a high level skill. I'm not sure most humans are very good at it either. I thought the cross the road joke was fairly good.

Humor (both making and understanding jokes) is gonna be the final obstacle to AI passing the Turing Test. If it ever nails that down, it'll only be after imitating humans in every other way.

“Cancel culture” will die when faith in the legal system is restored.

To flesh this out a little since looking back at it I see how it can come across as bull-headed and bitter:

Looking back over the past few decades, there has always been a societal thread who’s underlying script is something like “System schistem. We have to take care of our own.”, but it has exploded in the past couple of decades.

As I reflected back on what changed, there’s of course the internet and “virtue signalling” but I don’t think those are the biggest shifts.

I think that underneath “cancel culture” is a desire for justice.

And I also think that desires for justice used to be filled by the legal system: if someone broke the law they would be punished in accordance with those laws (and further: those laws that the public guide through democratic processes). However, if you look at the current state of our legal systems it’s very hard to see any sort of justice happening. From police brutality to court wins going to the one with the most funds I would be surprised if the average person in western culture had any sort of faith in the legal system as it stands.

And so it‘s understandable to me that people would inevitably create a social-media-fuelled “court of public opinion” to “bring justice where there would otherwise be no justice”.

Bringing examples here might sidetrack my point, but I think that if our legal system was at a level where everyone had faith in it’s ability to bring justice then they would not feel the need to bring justice by going outside of it to “cancel” people.

This conversation is a problem of definition. Cancel culture is not the entire or even half the audience of a club complaining about the act. Cancel culture is 500 people out of 50M (0.0001%) complaining, which combined with the power of journalistic headlines to blow things wildly out of proportion, results in the act being removed - even though, in many cases, 100% of the in person audience enjoyed the act. In fact…

> Cancel culture Until this point, I thought we were talking about literally being cancelled , not whatever the phrase "cancel culture" means in modern political discourse, given that this headline is literally about an endless AI-generated stream being switched off. Everything I used was intended as an analogy to that end. > Cancel culture is 500 people out of 50M (0.0001%) complaining, which combined with the power…

Eh, this comment itself is proof that cancel culture is a thing.

You're hand wringing about someone, somewhere, who is probably upset. You're okay with something being removed that you don't personally find offensive, but instead find offensive on behalf of imaginary people you don't know.

Males commit the vast majority of sexual offences, murders and other violent crimes. We are talking over 80%-90%. This is why we have sex-segregated spaces like locker rooms, bathrooms and prisons, to reduce the risk to women from violent and sexually abusive men. It's nothing at all like black people being forced to use different bathrooms - this is a segregation that almost all women want to remain in place. It is…

Oh good statistics. Tell me what proportion of sexual violence is perpetuated by trans women against non trans women? Or what kind of sexual violence is committed by men against women in unisex bathrooms? Or perhaps a study on whether the belief that forbidding trans women from entering women’s bathrooms would materially alter sexual violence rates at all? Because virtually all sexual violence is not a random on the…

Trans-identifying males have the same patterns of criminality as other males. The ones in prison are even more likely to have been locked up for sex crimes, when compared to other men in prison.

Now pull up the statistics for genuine women and see how they compare. You'll find it's much, much worse. But no-one pushing this transgender ideology gives a shit about actual female women do they, only the special ones with cocks and sob stories about how hard it is pretending to be a woman.

Deeply weird to make a throwaway account only to complain about trans women, you think?

What do you mean its a familiar pattern? What do you mean better explanation? You don't have an explanation, you just have a pejorative descriptor... I'm genuinely uninterested in post-battling somebody who seems to have an axe to grind over this.

There is no increased risk of being a victim of violence for being transgender that is not fully accounted for by the increased risk of engaging in prostitution. It is just that transgender people tend to have higher rates of prostitution.

Simply not true, violence against transgender women is 1/4 where as cis women are 1/10. "Transgender people tend to have higher rates of prostitution" is baseless. https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/press/ncvs-trans-pres...

The data you cite does not say what you think it does. In fact, it makes the very mistake I was pointing out in my original post -- failing to control for rates of prostitution and other risky behavior and simply comparing rates of violence based on gender only.

Simply citing a study that makes no attempt to control for rates of prostitution does not disprove my argument. Repeating a myth does not make it true, even if you repeat it over and over again.
