Yeah, that's a glaring issue. They say it was prohibited in the 2023 operating manual [1]. That's the same year as the franchise contract. It'd be strange for B&M to lie about such an objectively falsifiable statement. My best guess is that the franchise and operating manual were simply not in agreement. (B&M wants to reject the consignment because they want the franchise operator to take liability for any missing or…

There was a livestream last night where the Bricks and Minifigs COO said that the franchise agreement has a clause saying that the operations manual overrules the franchise agreement and they can update the operations manual at any time. BAM's court filing instead says that the franchise agreement allows consignment services, but "limited expressly to those approved by BAM".

There's good evidence that it was expressly approved in the form of social media posts advertising the consignment on their social media pages. Difficult for them to argue either ignorance or that the arrangement wasn't authorised, both of which aren't really relevant to the demonstrated facts of the dispute.

I'm really confused by this blog. There seems to be a large portion of the story missing. I can't figure out the correlation between the owner losing their franchise and the rest of the story. Why did they want to steal the sets? If they're really a $400M company (whatever that means), why would they do this over (at most) $200k? I couldn't figure out what is being claimed here. I'm not saying it's not true, I just c…

I believe they think they can get away with it because they have before. This family is linked to a company called Legally Mine, which specializes in legally stealing from people in any way they can, even potential clients. It's insane.

And people wonder why Luigi has so much support from the general public?

There is a little difference between this story and the Luigi thing, in that the man in this story did not commit murder.

Neither did Luigi. Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

The founder of mormonism married a child and given that mormon doctrine is just whatever he said definitionaly it's an official sanctioned thing. Some coercion? It was entirely external pressure. Some of the mormons haven't even stopped polygamy today.

> Some of the mormons haven't even stopped polygamy today. Using the term 'Mormon' to refer to the the entire family tree including splinter sects is just a recipe for confusion. Adherents to splinter sects, excluding RLDS, number in the tens of thousands compared to millions of CoJCoLDS. The problems with CoJCoLDS are damning on their own without needing to conflate facts with fringe groups.

Go on, without looking it up, name the three dominant schools of Islam.

i’m not saying that Luigi did it, but someone did it and people are celebrating them for it.

> Then Bricks & Minifigs Corporate took control of the Salem location from the original franchise owner > They were found liable in court. They closed the store rather than pay. This doesn't make any sense. If the corporation took control of the franchise, the corporation now owns it and its obligations. They can close the store if they want, but that doesn't do anything about their obligation to pay. What's missing…

I don't think they won in court, B&M just didn't respond so it went to a default judgement

> B&M just didn't respond so it went to a default judgement

So they won.

They were sealed in box? Yeah you'd be right that damage would be easy and could significantly reduce the value. I didn't realize people bought Lego to leave in the box. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised because it's a common thing for collectors to do in other hobbies.

Even without the box I think you're underestimating how damaging water is. If you're experience a flood it's never distilled H20, sometimes it's sewage and that's just awful, but even if it's storm water or a broken water main the water isn't the difficult portion (though that alone can lead to all sorts of mold issues) it's the sediment. If that sediment is from brown water there are obvious biological hazards which…

Lego survives being eaten by babies and poop back out again (source: my younger brother). They also survive being left out at theme parks (ie the various Legolands) and primary schools under all weather conditions for months and years.

So I don't think I'm underestimating the resilience of Lego bricks to flooding.

There was an article a on HN a while back about the plastics chosen by Lego. They put an exceptional amount of time and effort into choosing durable materials for their bricks.

And your source for this data? Or is this speculation?

The problem of child sex abuse in Mormonism is magnified by several factors. The community is very tight-knit and insular. Mormons believe that God directly guides their leaders. This leads to mental compartmentalization and slowness to recognize abuse to start with. When it is recognized, there is an extremely strong culture of handling grievances internally through the Priesthood hierarchy. Reports will go to the b…

I agree that CSA exists in the mormon community. just want some kind of evidence that it in any way exceeds any other population. If you point out that any other group, e.g. illegal immigrants, commit crimes, you are labeled as racist. but it's strange there is no -ist when you do it. why is that?

[flagged]

Mormons should not be considered christian any more than Christians should be considered Jewish. You don't get to start an insane cult and say you are christian just because you also have a character named "jesus". Their dogma is not at all christian. A lot of it is pretty extreme blasphemy.

2020s christians should not be considered christian compared to 1400s christians. who are you to make such a judgemental statement about a minority?

I make a thorough and well cited post, and get this zero-effort trolling in response? The Mormon central corporation has a dedicated legal hotline specifically for advising clergy how to prevent child sexual abuse from being reported to the police. Since uou can't distinguish this from racism, I'm done here.
