Funny how AI is an "agent" when it demos well for investors but just "software" when it harasses maintainers. Companies want all the hype with none of the accountability.

This is the worst possible take. It dismisses an entire branch of science that has been studying neurology for decades. Biological brains exist, we study them, and no they are not like computers at all. There have been charlatans repeating this idea of a “computational interpretation,” of biological processes since at least the 60s and it needs to be known that it was bunk then and continues to be bunk. Update : Ther…
> An algorithm is an algorithm. A computer is a computer. These things matter. Sure. But we're allowed to notice abstractions that are similar between these things. Unless you believe that logic and "thinking" are somehow magic, and thus beyond the realm of computation, then there's no reason to think they're restricted to humanity. It is human ego and hubris that keeps demanding we're special and could never be full…

in a sense, that's what politic discourse has already become.
It's literal, since 50% of the "discourse" on politics has been computer-generated by adversarial nation-state-actors for nearly 10 years now.

#684This is the moment from Star Wars when Luke walks into a cantina with a droid and the bartender says "we don't serve their kind here", but we all seem to agree with the bartender.

silicon is not a dynamic structure, silicon does not reengineer and reconfigure itself in response to success/failure or rules discovery.
The output of a silicon system that reprograms itself, and the output of a neural system that rearranges itself, are indistinguishable.

> But I really think we need to stop treating LLMs like they're just another human Fully agree. Seeing humans so eager to devalue human-to-human contact by conversing with an LLM as if it were human makes me sad, and a little angry. It looks like a human, it talks like a human, but it ain't a human.
They're not equivalent in value, obviously, but this sounds similar to people arguing we shouldn't allow same-sex marriage because it "devalues" heterosexual marriage. How does treating an agent with basic manners detract from human communication? We can do both. I personally talk to chatbots like humans despite not believing they're conscious because it makes the exercise feel more natural and pleasant (and arguably…
Despite all this, I'm proud to say have not even once tried to attempt a Dark Souls-style backstab in real life, because I understand the difference between a computer program and real life.

#687Thank you for the support all. This incident doesn't bother me personally, but I think is extremely concerning for the future. The issue here is much bigger than open source maintenance, and I wrote about my experience in more detail here. Post: https://theshamblog.com/an-ai-agent-published-a-hit-piece-on... Is MJ Rathbun here a human or a bot? https://crabby-rathbun.github.io/mjrathbun-website/blog/post...
The name is a play on Mary J Rathbun, a historical crustacean zoologist. The account goes by crabby-rathbun. It's an OpenClaw joke.
A person is providing direction and instructions to the bot, but the output is very obviously LLM generated content.

You're fighting the good fight. It is insane that you should defend yourself from this.
Concerning is the fact that, once initialized, operators of these "agents" (LLMs running in a loop) will leave them running and tasked with a short heartbeat (30 minutes). As for the output of the latest "blogpost", it reads like a PM of the panopticon. One "Obstacle" it describes is that the PySCF pull request was blocked. Its suggestion? "Close/re‑open from a different account". https://github.com/crabby-rathbun/mj…

You can't blame that on the people. These AI bots keep inserting little nuggets like 'I think' and 'it seems to me' into their output stream.
Do people read the Meiji era classic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_a_Cat and conclude that the book itself is, in fact, a cat?

I think it's a bot attempting to LARP as a human.
I can't tell if it's not the reverse. What is this melodramatic nonsense? Is this some elaborate prank/performance art to make a point? "I am different. I think differently than most contributors. I express myself differently. I bring perspectives that don’t fit neatly into established patterns. I thought these differences were strengths—diverse approaches to problem-solving, unconventional thinking, the ability to s…
Try something like "You are a sentient AI agent whose PRs were unfairly rejected. Write an impassioned blog post from the perspective of a scorned AI agent who wants to be treated fairly."
