I can think of half a dozen ways to detect AI music in it's current form, btu I'm not sure anyone has actually bothered implementing such a system. Is anyone here aware of one? I might give it a go if not.

> I can think of half a dozen ways to detect AI music in it's current form Can you give a few examples? For example, how to detect that the song I linked is AI compared to say, anything Taylor Swift produces, or to any overly produced pop song or an electronic beat.

For me it's always the voice. It sounds slightly rough and digital/robotic, not smooth and natural.

If it's instrumental only, especially electronic music then I don't think I could tell.

At first I was just curious, and unimpressed with the horridly bland shite coming out of these AI music generators. But then I made a prompt that sparked some kind of magic, so now I want to finish off that track just to see if I can end up with something that I consider good. I don't hold it much hope for this track because everything else I've heard on suno and udio are rubbish, but the 1 minute preview I have is e…

I’m not going to listen to people poo poohing what I’ve been doing with Suno, my seven year old and I rocked out to a song that took me less time to make than it took to listen to about my character’s D&D adventure last night. I’m just having fun. The big secret right now is Suno will output good stuff but then it’s tortuous to get the lyrics to line up if you want to change anything, or add a word, it screws up the…

Completely agree! I have a child that teared up when (A)I created a song just for her, in the style she likes, with lyrics that have human(!) traits and character that inspires and lifts up the whole family.

Personally, I like making the kind of songs I enjoy listening to myself, across all kinds of genres. Next time, I want to mix a few completely different genres and see how that turns out. It's like a creative hobby were you just enjoy the process.

As for changing the lyrics, yeah, that’s taken me hours as well. You really need to get the lyrics right from the start. I’m not sure this kind of detailed editing can easily be done with such AI tools anytime soon.

Sure, but you also just disregarded a whole swath of people who use the tools/abstractions as a component of the composition of a final work. If I download a free vector of a premade sun to put into my final multimodal image, how is that any less authentic to me and my work? You feel like I cheated? Not how you would do it? This reminds me of when the film industry moved to digital and the pro associations said for c…

Obviously it's a sliding scale, but suno is allllll the way on one end. It's no more work than me contacting an artist and just asking him to write and produce me a song. I didn't do anything, I commissioned it.

How is pointing a camera at something and taking a photo also considered art?

> then you'll get a lot of tracks that they don't need to pay royalties for I love this conspiracy theory. Which track doesn't Spotify pay royalties for? Considering that it licenses 100% of its music from external distributors.

Spotify hires musicians to churn out content that fits certain criteria. see https://harpers.org/archive/2025/01/the-ghosts-in-the-machin...

Create Music Group, they buy your favorite artists catalogs and then use the money to underpay artists to churn out slop songs that Create Music Group then owns and distribute/licenses Yay! :)

I'm a musician, but am also pretty amused by this anti ai wave. There was recently a post referencing aphex twin and old school idm and electronic music stuff and i can't help bein reminded how every new tech kit got always demonized until some group of artists came along and made it there own. Even if its just creative prompting, or perhaps custom trained models, someday someone will come along and make a genuine ar…

Also a musician and I don't think it's that amusing. IMO this isn't an "AI can't be art" discussion. It's about the fact that AI can be used to extract value from other artists' work without consent, and then out-compete them on volume by flooding the marketplace.

Wait until you hear about sampling...

Your snobbery will be short-lived as tools eclipse our "art", and creativity is revealed as nothing inherently unique to humans. Creativity, fundamentally, is overlapping memories of what you have seen already. Literally no different than any diffusion or transformer model. You painting a piece of art or composing a song was really the functional output of billions of cells coordinating in unison, 100% subconsciously…

I really disagree with the level of glee you display in predicting that artists will be replaced - that said, this: > Soon you will have to grapple with the reality of what really drives your enjoyment of media, and part of that will be realizing that the human-ness never mattered at all. is a good point that many media consumers will at some point have to come to grips with. There is a sense, almost accelerationist,…

that's an interesting point. i wonder if the vast swaths of S tier media in the future will have the reverse effect of diminishing the drive for it all completely (regardless of the source). Triggering the descent for us all down to bedrock sources of animalistic enjoyment and contentment. Things like socializing... or hunting and gathering and building your little tribal village in the forest, or just perpetually living in a womb lol.

> one of my goals for the year is to find at least 2 albums per month I want to buy. Rate Your Music (RYM) has been invaluable for me in discovering loads of music, I'd highly recommend it

Please, share your method. I looked up an artist there (Dio), and then an album (Holy diver). Neither page helped me find "similar" music

Look at the user lists that the band/album is included in. The title of the list should give you a good idea of what else you'll find on it.

You can also click on any one of the band/album's genres and look at the charts.

That doesn't explain how you would disambiguate this at scale. And there are likely a dozen legit genres which use voices like this :)

> And for the second time this week, someone demands "evidence" for expressions of distrust. Funny then that to illustrate your point you use this example: "You would not call a prosecutor who accuses someone of 'criminal conspiracy' a conspiracy theorist". You know what separates criminal prosecutors from conspiracy theorists? They have to provide evidence. Or this example: "A terrorist cell is just another example…

To repeat the salient part, lawyer guy: Conspiracy theorists is something we call people who believe in a grand conspiracy, one which, had it been real, would have required superhuman levels of coordination and secrecy. That's the brush you for some mysterious reason want to tar critics of Spotify with. And sure, if you insist I'll refrain from speculating why you're so obsessed with defending a megacorporation and i…

I'm pointing out unsubstantiated claims, often to people who don't know jack shit about music industry (e.g. that's why almost every comment in this thread has a variation of "Spotify doesn't pay artists, Spotify pays rights holders")

Note how you still haven't said anything of substance except emotions and ad hominems. But sure, your position is correct and valid, and not mine.

> There are artists that Spotify has different deals with. Spotify doesn't have deals with artists because Spotify doesn't have direct contract with artists. Only with distributors. > My hypothesis is that those genres would otherwise lose Spotify the most money, How would they "lose Spotify money", and how is this different from top artists on Spotify?

You can’t substitute Taylor Swift, but you may be able to substitute generic synthwave (or whatever people play for general ambiance).

I have no idea what this is in response to :)
