Can you help me understand why the ChatGPT model has an inherent bias towards Joe Biden and against Donald Trump? This is not really what I would expect from a large language model .......

Reality has an inherent liberal bias.

In all honesty though, the dataset it was trained on may have a liberal bias. This is _precisely_ the sort of bias you should expect from a large language model .............................

I can't speak for every company, but I've seen a lot of people claiming that they're leveraging "chat GPT" for their tech stack when underneath the covers they're just using the standard open davinci-03 model. Still wrong obv but for a different reason.

Welcome to marketing copy. ChatGPT has the name recognition. text-davinci-003 does not.

GPT-3 surely does too, but ChatGPT is undeniably the new hotness.

Sure, but with some things, the increase in productivity pays off the price easily - you end up earning more, or working way less. $20/mo for a subscription of NYT, or Netflix is not one of those things. But ChatGPT in many cases can save whole days of work over each month, so - especially when you're a freelancer, it will pay itself off.

For me, ChatGPT also has a psychological benefit. It makes me feel like there’s someone that I can fall back on when I‘m stuck. It might be wrong (often the bot is not super helpful), but this is not about rationality.

I'm finding ChatGPT may be wrong, but it's answers are often enough to point me in the right direction - particularly when I'm working in a new domain where I'm not yet experienced enough to be able to ask google the right questions.

Previously I'd fall back to asking in a forum and getting a (tbf) much better answer a few hours or days later, but ChatGPT may be enough to point me in the right direction in a few minutes

I think your interpretation of "free as in beer" is the opposite of the mainstream (where my understanding is it means "free of charge")

It is - but the mainstream “free as in beer” makes no sense. Who gives away free beer? Beer is free as in libre, not free as in gratis!

But you’re correct - the mainstream meaning of that term is the opposite - which I find bizarre.

The $42/mo thing was a hoax. Several news outlets picked it up since it looked pretty legit. In hindsight, the price point should have tipped us off.

Off topic, but my favourite thing about GPT is the way it shamelessly lies, sometimes. I asked "What is GPT3" and it told me it was developed by Microsoft. I asked what did OpenAI have to do with GPT3, it said "nothing". I pinned it to the wall with a link to the Wikipedia page and it acknowledged Microsoft invested in GPT-3.... Asked again just now, being honest now.

I asked it what season of Community is referred to as “the year of the gas leak”. It answered season 2. I said “that’s incorrect”. It apologized and said that it’s really season 3. “Still wrong”. “I apologize, the year of the gas leak is season 4. Multiple episodes in season four refer to the gas leak”. I pointed out that it was part right, and it confidently corrected itself, now the year of the gas leak is season 5.

Fans of the show know that the correct answer is season 4, but it’s a joke starting in season 5 about Dan Harmon not being the show runner for a year and whatever happened in season 4 can be ignored. I’m pretty sure I found the Reddit thread that would have created the confusion.

It's a uniquely American perspective that the two political parties should be treated equally. From a global perspective, one is far more problematic than the other, and GPT reflects that accurately.
