The US is winning (or has won and keeps on winning) the Conquer Victory, the Diplomacy Victory, and the Culture Victory. I think that's the main means of winning Civilization? Been years since I played one.

Diplomacy Victory? I’m not too sure.. Your friends are just rich, but not numerous. Most of the world hates us in various ways.

Culture victory? You did come up with the book of Mormon, which I guess is some kind of achievement.

Conquer Victory, now this eclipses everything. The size of US army apparatus is astounding. No doubt about that.

In 1783 the Montgolfier brothers flew through the skies for the first time ever in a hot air balloon. It wasn't even sure if humans could survive being in the air so the King wouldn't let them send humans aloft until test animals survived first.

Later that same year, the hydrogen balloon was invented and that one was flown to an altitude of 3 km high.

And yes, the idea that you could write in Edinburgh and have it delivered to Berlin had already been invented much further back than after 1823. The Roman Empire had the Cursus Publicus which handled mail delivery between the Provinces and Italy.

Yes, it is news because subject matter is still relevant as before and CIA want people forget about this and instead think about UFOs.

If I hadn’t seen this post about UFOs and clicked on the comments I wouldn’t have read about this anniversary at all.

Well, the top story right now is a major dam in a war zone having been destroyed. Given that this story is coming out right now... literally right now?
