The display quality of a 14 inch 1800p oled at 120Hz (asus, lenovo, dell all offer this) is honestly a league above the 60Hz IPS panel the air has had for way too long now. The MacBook Neo has modular ports. The rest of them don't. They may introduce them more widely in the next redesign but that remains to be seen.

The piece I linked, along with the parts for sale in the iFixIt shop seem to contradict your assertion. The piece says:

"The Neo has the same modular bits and bobs we’ve applauded in recent MacBook designs. The USB-C ports are modular, so a damaged charge port doesn’t turn into logic board work."

This: "don't get me started on display quality"

Suggesting that the windows alternatives are somehow behind in display quality. The macbook air's display is fine (but definitely not class leading) for the price, but even comparing the newest M5 airs to the M1 macbook pro 14, it's not nearly as premium.

It's a baseless comment that just derails actual technical comparison and discussion about how good laptop screens in general have gotten. Especially with OLEDs/miniLEDs/touchscreens/high-refresh screens all becoming increasingly widespread.

macOS and Linux are both POSIX-compatible operating systems. I guess I’m unclear on why you’d need to run a Linux VM with full filesystem access, when the tools can be installed on macOS itself the filesystem is just the filesystem. It seems like an unnecessary layer of complexity for most standard use cases.

You’re responding to a thread where op literally said they only want Linux and telling them they shouldn’t want Linux. Why even respond to the thread?

Nobody is confused about what macos is in 2026, this isn’t about education, it’s about preference.

OK, let me rephrase my issues with Windows laptops:

- most displays that I've seen on Thinkpads (the ones used at work) are not that great

- For the ones with higher resolutions, Windows scaling makes the windows look weird. What I mean by this is that either the fonts are too small or too big. What I like about the retina displays is that the fonts look just right.

I hope this clears up what I meant by the previous comment.

You clearly have never tried to implement sleep on a microcontroller. It has nothing at all to do with ACPI. And this kind of eldritch bug is par for the course. It has nothing at all to do with Microsoft or PCs at all. Microcontroller sleep just sucks in a lot of incredibly weird ways.
