What’s really happening is companies are using AI as an excuse to fire people and make those that remain work harder. Eventually people are going to mass quit and go into other industries.

That's optimistic. Ancient egypt (elite in pyramids, slaves otherwise) is more likely.

Ancient Egypt had plenty of slaves, but also a whole class of skilled tradesmen. We won't even have that in the future.
