I only meant the Gemini Chat interface. There is actually an alternative for $20 a month plan for coding that’s called Gemini Assist Enteprise. I actually already signed up for that when Gemini Code launched, because I definitely didn’t want them having rights to my code.

Makes sense, I agree for general chat Gemini is great.

For Gemini Code Assist [1], the problem remains that their models are very poor at tool calling and that their harness (Gemini CLI) is miles behind. Looks like there's a plugin for Opencode to use this subscription, which helps with the harness part.

If Gemini 3 GA - which is taking suspiciously long - is better at tool calling then it'll be a great option.

What does "all visible tabs" mean in the context of Claude Code in a terminal window? Are you saying it's reading other terminals open on the system? Also how do you determine "currently active file"? It just greps files as needed.

I think your surmise is probably wrong. It's not that their growing to fast, it's that their service is cheaper than the actual cost of doing business. Growth isn't a problem unless you dont actually pay for the cost of every user you subscribe. Uber, but for poorly profitable business models.

I suppose my comparison is that Uber eventually turned a profit and mostly displaced the competitors.

I don't see the current investments turning a profit. Maybe the datacenters will, but most of AI is going to be washed out when somewhere, someone wants to take out their investment and the new Bernie Madoff can't find another sucker.

I would think so too.

If their support is bad and you can get cut off from it with no recourse, is that a good reason to supply our fellow HN readers with misinformation based on rumor? We should just say false things to each other and it's OK as long as they're bad things about the right people? That is certainly how a lot of the internet works but I have higher hopes for us here.

We can just say "their support is bad and you can get cut off from it with no recourse" without also supporting misinformation.

This is what happens when you make all the h100/h200/equivalent cards exclusive and lock them up in warehouses. We have no way of running these models locally… yet. Keyword is yet, the exclusivity period is going to end just like it did for 3D graphics when 3DFX democratized it with the voodoo cards. They’re only 300gb of memory and a chip ahead. It’ll shrink.

You can grow some amount of produce, if you have a garden, but a lot of people don't have their own garden, and if they do it's quite small. To be entirely self-sufficient, you need quite a large area of land just to grow enough food for the entire year.

Most people don't have that, and can't afford that, hence why they take the route of earning money some other way, and using the money to buy food made by others, from supermarkets. They can supplement their diet with home-grown fruit and veg, but few can sustain their family on home-grown produce.
