This article is a pre-print with severe mistakes (in particular they inverted the results for the treatment and control groups in one of the studies, you can't make this up). Read the comments. It's highly unlikely the piece will be published.

Read this peer-reviewed and accepted meta-analysis instead [0]. Conclusion: low- to moderate-certainty evidence of a positive effect depending on the endpoint. Higher certainty would come from higher-powered studies.

With 0.38 risk ratio, it may well be that it should be used everywhere (except for patients already advanced enough to need mechanical ventilation, as mentioned). I don't have a reference for this but I recently read it was basically used on every tested-positive case with symptoms in Mexico City, with significantly improved results.

How do you calculate the risk ratio?

It's been in use for about 40 years and prescribed maybe billions of times, conclusions would've been drawn from a large data set like that.

According to the Maryland tweet it was “several”. The others referenced “exposure”. I suspect the media worried and reported the outrage about this far more than people took it seriously enough to do it.

Gonna sound harsh, but if you are dumb enough to ingest a poison on the say so of an obnoxious real estate developer, the world is better off without you. I’m ok with those folks removing themselves from the gene pool.
