What many Americans don't realize is that China has already surpassed the United States in terms of development (developing country vs developed country sense of the word). Obviously both are 'developed' countries at this point but compare Chinese tier 1 cities vs American tier 1 cities. I would argue Chinese tier 1 cities are 10-20 years ahead of their American counterparts. source: visit any Chinese tier 1 city (Be…

#602US manufacturing hit an all time high of 2.9 trillion dollars in 2024, and is up year over year. Yeah totally failing.
"Slower growth: Despite the record output, some analyses reported that the overall growth of U.S. manufacturing output was modest, at just 1% in 2024. This reflected a lag between announced investments and new operational capacity coming online."
So record output, but practically zero growth.

# 3 is not a solution because it will only make American production more expensive and impoverish the population. It's a full disaster.
Japan used that strategy very successfully for at least a century. The high cost of imported goods encouraged consumers to buy domestic at prices that were also high, which subsidized exports at competitive prices. The Japanese public is less docile now, but this is one example where import restrictions worked well. I believe you can find other examples from the 20th century, but I'm not sure whether they would work…

What are some examples that might blow my mind?
The latter probably will never happen in the US.

The US regressed on this heavily in the last generation.

China has had major internal violent conflicts many times: in 1967, 1960, 1937, 1916, 1856, and so on. Another civil war probably isn't imminent but based on historical patterns it's entirely possible in our lifetimes. There could be an external shock in terms of a severe disruption in food or energy imports, or an internal power struggle between CCP factions. Xi Jinping isn't immortal and no one can predict what mig…
It is highly unlikely because the government has an explicit goal of bringing harmony, and the people have had such a uniform upbringing that even their discussions of politics is around policy effectiveness, economics of implementation and metrics where as here in the US it is republican vs democrat and the topic is about Transgender issue or something that is not policy but a belief or some intangible thing that do…

No. Nothing is but is that what's happening? Huge bets were made on the Internet technology in the US and it paid off even with the dot com bubble bursting. If we don't stay on top of technology then we will simply be passed by China. People also said the Internet was going revolutionize everything in the 90s and it did. AI is already pretty impressive and we are just in the infancy of the technology.
The thing is, China seems to be able to keep up with much less invested. I don't know how much it took for them to create DeepSeek and their other power efficient models, but it sure doesn't take much to run them. Meanwhile American AI seems to have a limitless hunger for energy.
But they are obviously rocketing ahead in energy capacity, which will be the real bottleneck as data centers continue to scale.

Cash is still pretty common there and definitely can't go cashless (nor would I personally like to), and there's no delivery drones that I'm aware of (I also don't particularly care for that, personally).
I'm not even sure it's that they're ahead, I think we've just fallen behind in a lot of those cases.

Are those tools functional? Have you ever checked? I'm not sure what tools you are talking about, but likely some of them are measurement tools and they can seem to work perfect while giving the wrong measurement. Other might be cutting tools that cut, but they are a bit dull and if you don't know how to check you won't realize the cuts are not as good as new anymore (or maybe you have sharpened them and they now cut…
> I'm not sure what tools you are talking about, but likely some of them are measurement tools If you don't know something for sure, it's best to not make assumptions. We're not LLMs and don't need to spit out something confidently without understanding it.
