In Turkey cinemas used to have intermissions for every movie. Even in early 2000s. I don't know if it's still the case.
In Switzerland, having an intermission is still standard. It's great.

I wonder why the theaters won't incorporate a 5 minute intermission break for movies longer than 2h:20m (140 minutes, on the higher end for typical films).
Growing up in India, movies always had an intermission. They even used to cut Hollywood movies at 45 minutes. I always looked forward to the break because it was one of the rare occasions my parents would let me and my sister have soda and pop corn.
This explains why any movie I've seen coming from India has always felt _long_.

#63I forwent popcorn and soda for Avengers Endgame cause I didn't wanna get up to go to the bathroom. Just took tiny sips of water when my mouth got dry. Worked like a charm.
Avengers: Endgame seems to be just around 3 hours long. Wouldn't it be enough to simply go to the bathroom before sitting down to view it?

#64Random but this app was founded by ex-NFL quarterback Carson Palmer's brother Jordan. Also still requires you to check your phone during a movie which should be immediate jail time across the board.

Parent is complaining about this will make you have to view your phone during the movie in order to see when it's happening, presumably because you'll disturb others who sit next to you because of the brightness of the phone.
So instead you suggest making it go off with a timer instead? That seems even worse!

Go with the flow is a better policy than subjecting your bladder to a movie’s rhythm.
Your body will thank you.

Unless your body is already quite dehydrated, this strategy will be hit-or-miss on it's own. Improvenent is possibe by combining the above with relieving yourself immediately before the performance begins. If you relieve immediately beforehand and can't hold it for 90 minutes, there is likely a medical issue (e.g. old man, pregnant, etc).

#68I'm completely bored by long battle scenes (e.g. in LOTR) ... seen one, seen 'em all ... some are long enough to visit the loo and go out for a smoke.
For me it's less war scenes like in LOTR and more longwinded action movie scenes, like people fighting or elaborate car chases or what not. One of the many reasons why I'm really not a fan of the superhero genre that seems so pervasive nowadays.
Another reason I dislike the superhero genre these days is because the plot arcs are so predictable. It seems like every movie follows exactly the same beats. At this point they feel more like remixes than fresh content.

Trailers seem to have only a loose connection to the movie itself. They're made by different teams, sometimes with different (unused) footage.

When I watched Return of the King in a theater they had 10 or 15 min break in the middle, it was the first and last time I've seen such arrangement. It would be nice if Hollywood finally accepted such format and just went with 3-4 hour long movies with a break. Not for all movies of course, but at least for the more complex ones. I mean not making 2:30 long movie and then just pad it with irrelevant, often static sce…
When the LOTR came out originally the theatres I went to had no break.
When they did the marathon showing of the extended editions before the first hobbit movie they did an intermission on each movie. It was nice.
