This article doesn't make this so explicit, but ATT infrastructure appears to be the intentional target of the bombing. You can see the building in the helicopter shot at the top of the NYTimes article on the story: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/25/us/nashville-explosion.ht... Obviously a telecommunications/switch hub, with it being a large windowless building in a downtown core. The other thing that's particularly…

AT&T says that their services went down along with the gas & power in the area, as a side effect: the gas shutoff cut off their backup generators. That doesn't sound all that targeted.

In the UK I've only ever encountered diesel fuelled generators with tanks usually long enough to run the DC for hours if not days. Easy to see in hindsight, but I guess I'm slightly surprised at the use of generators running off mains gas for this very reason. Does anyone know how common this is in the USA?

Liveleak actually has some security camera footage with audio of the recording: https://www.liveleak.com/view?t=aZhBY_1608918884

Looks like somebody didn't like Wonder Woman 1984.

I think folks on social media are overthinking the motive. A lot of people (most?) hate telecoms and big tech companies (including their employees and contractors) and someone decided to stick it to one. There are so many reasons for this, some logical and valid and some conspiratorial nonsense. In the end, it all boils down to the fact that living under the watch of these massive and all-powerful conglomerates makes many, many people deeply unhappy.

The country is a powder keg of armed, angry, diseased, lonely people and unfortunately, something like this was likely to happen sooner rather than later. It's very sad.

The building (185 2nd Ave N) the RV exploded in front of appears to host a lot of equipment: https://www.telcodata.us/search-switches-by-zip-code?zip=372...

I've been wondering if it's one of the 5G weirdos who got tired of burning down antennas on the street and started thinking bigger.

If they're technically capable to make something this sophisticated, surely they'd know that all the 5G conspiracy theories are technically bunk?

Although there are 2 variants of 5G weirdoism: the "cancer waves!" one and the "it gives us Covid!" one. The latter is easier to debunk...

Local TV News managed to interview a neighbor from directly across the street where the explosion occurred[1]. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iag6cTWpgq8

Interesting things to consider. 1) I heard something about "fake reports" about gunshots. But maybe the perp shot off some guns just to get the cops to show up? 2) This woman stuck around for 15 minutes or a half hour while this thing was saying "you need to evacuate, this has a bomb"??? 3) This woman recalls a male voice but the news played a female voice. This goes to show how bad our memories are!

Watching a video, the audio was so surreal I had to ask myself how I would respond if I heard that without any clue where it was coming from.

Hopefully I never find out, but I guess now I'm a bit more mentally prepared to not linger.

There were gunshots sounds but we're not sure if it was audio from the RV or actual gun shots

Reports of gunshots weren't fake because multiple witnesses heard gunshots. No idea if it was related to the bombing or not.

Example:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/25/us/nashville-explosion/index....

>McCoy said he was originally woken up by what he believed were gunshots prior to the explosion. He got up and looked out the window, he said, but went back to bed when he didn't see anything. Asked if the noise he heard could have been something other than gunfire, McCoy emphasized that he believed it was, saying he owns a gun and goes shooting, so he's familiar with the sound of gunshots.

There have been companies offering gas-mains alternatives to generators; it's pretty rare that both your electricity grid and gas grid go off together - and if someone is bombing your building you've got other problems.
