Isn't it outright illegal? Can't you get them towed?

Yes, but no one stays at a yard sale for more than 2 or 3 minutes. By the time the tow truck would arrive they would be long gone. This is at its heart the reason why this is an overzealous non-problem.

Reminds me of lombard street [1]. It can be pretty tiring for the residents to see a constant barrage of tourists, stopping their vehicles on the street to take pictures. Imagine leaving or returning home at "peak tourist hours", how difficult it would be to drive your car near your home. I guess the burden is on a home owner to figure out what they are walking into when they buy a house near a popular tourist attraction.

Oh, and there's also the Martins Beach case [2].

It is strictly enforced by Sausalito Police on behalf of residents. There's some great short hikes up there that offer excellent views of the Golden Gate Bridge and headlands. I visited a few years ago and found the whole state of California was like this. "Shoo shoo dirty tourist, move along!". Locals upset and frustrated at tourists. Paris is like this too. I moved out of downtown Toronto for this reason; people coming and going with no respect for the locals who call it their home.

There are a lot of other crimes that can be committed before law enforcement would arrive. Would you suggest those are non-issues as well?

It's hard for me to believe that you're not being a troll on purpose, and that you honestly are the sort of selfish person that you would deny someone access to or from their own home.

Oh, wait, I think I get it. You don't own a house? That must be it. You're not a selfish jerk, you're simply ignorant of the challenges of protecting your right of way in case you need to rush your kid to the doctor's office, or have an appointment you're running late to.

Oh hold on... You're a homeowner with no kids and no appointments because you're never late and have immaculate foresight into the wandering a of strangers? Surely you're just ignorant of the law th...Hang on, you acknowledged the illegality of blocking the driveway, and told the homeowner to suck it up.

So you are either a troll or a selfish person with no respect for property or the law. Stay off my driveway. And my lawn.

Small nitpick - why can't you erect tire-gouging spikes in your yard? It's your yard, is it not?

IANAL, nor am I directly citing anything. However, I believe that you cannot willfully setup something with intent to cause damage or harm to people or property that isn't your own.

I believe it's akin to drenching your sandwich with Dave's Insanity Sauce to catch the co-worker who has been stealing your lunch. If your enjoy eating your hot sauce with a side of sandwich, that's fine. It's the intent of how you're using the sauce that matters.

I'm behind a very stupid and extremely annoying corporate wall (McAfee Web Gateway) that blocks OpenStreetMap, but not Google Maps...

More generally I think we should campaign to get most McAfee stuff classified as some kind of badware: scareware, bloatware, nagware etc.

I do very little computer support (only friends and family and the occational coworker) and still I have solved a number of cases lately just by uninstalling anything McAfee related I could find.

Between drive by downloads and blocking internet access if you don't pay for protection it easily gets a place on my badware list at least.
