It shouldn't matter what brand you buy. Bluetooth should be a dumb pipe or it's worse than worthless, it's a shackle. A wire was better in almost every way.

Everyone who isn't Apple. Those Lenovo ones that had the scandal with the horrible spyware, for example, those are better, since you can reinstall Linux and then you have a laptop where you own the software and there isn't any spyware.

Tell that to the Bluetooth committee. Even for regular headphones, the quality of BT chips vary as far as the speed to connect and reliability and whether they can pair with multiple devices and how many.

No, a TV is replaced when it dies, regardless of the years, all of my are older than 10 years. Same applies to everything else electronic that I own.

Isn’t that even more of a reason to keep the smarts out of the TV and have a separate box? Especially since the AppleTV and all modern TVs support CEC so you can just use the Apple Remote for everything.

While the Apple Remote natively uses Bluetooth to communicate with the AppleTV, it does have IR to control TVs that don’t support CEC.

I don't give a fuck about Apple not innovating right, or releasing the right lineup of product options, or not giving off the right vibes. I buy an Apple phone and computer because they work great for a long time, and because the computer is unix-like. My main computer and smartphone are both 6 years old and they are still fantastic. I don't expect to buy new ones for at least another 3 years, and it could honestly be longer. I'm free from having to know what's going on in laptops or smartphones and looking at products, because I have products that just work. As long as Apple keeps doing that, I'll keep choosing their hardware.

These, “just change the firmware” comments are silly. I should get basic phone functionality from my phone out of the box with exactly ZERO effort. I can use an iPhone without an Apple account. I cannot use an Android phone without a Google account unless they changed that in the last few years.

I have a low opinion of "out of the box" experiences when it comes to pre-installed software. Phones, routers, PCs. They come loaded with crap that is best blown away.

When I get the phone and update the stock OS before wiping it, I don't need to sign into a Google account then, either, and I don't recall it being signed into someone else's, so I don't think regular Android requires it either, though my exposure is minimal so I can't guarantee it. It will try to have you sign in during the setup wizard, but I believe you can hit skip. You may need to skip connecting to the internet first to skip the account thing, I don't know. Maybe best done before you put the SIM in on top of that.
