The absolute maximum number of deaths imputable to the IRGC during the winter revolt is 18k. Of that, only 7k have been verified, and of that, only 6k have been from protesters. The reason the 11k have been harder to verify is that most of them were in the fringe of the country, far from hospital, in rural area, and the fighting there was intense. A good part of the unverified 11k might have been civilians caught in…

> The absolute maximum number of deaths imputable to the IRGC during the winter revolt is 18k. Source? I'm curious how you could even verify an absolute maximum given the IRGC/Regime has heavily suppressed information relating to deaths.

HRANA and other watchdogs who actually have people in Iran.

It's even better documentation that i thought, they added the methodology now.

If I remember correctly, the methodology from the NYT and other western MSM was 'the last time, IRGC said 80 death and HRANA said 800, so now since the IRGC recognise 3k death, it should be 30k!' which was then amplified to 40, 50 and even 60k from an Israeli outlet, in 3 days, when the protests and insurgency lasted over 50 days. Honestly I don't trust any numbers if it's published in an American outlet anymore. I now trust 'house of Saoud' more than WaPo or NYT.

> Then what? Decades of unjustifiable regional conflict used to manufacture consent for Israel to invade and indefinitely occupy portions of Syria, Jordan and Egypt? Because that's the precedent that Israel has set for themselves. It's not a very popular plan outside of the Knesset, as this war has proven.

There are not large 40 thousand plus armed terrorists groups that have been being armed for decades and have been shooting rockets at Israel for years in either Jordan or Egypt. And Syria has significantly improved their relations with Israel recently. Nobody in those countries are seriously suggesting that there is going to be some war with Israel anytime soon, and relations are as good as they have ever been.

Nobody in those countries believes that Israel is fighting a defensive war. They refuse to assist Israel until the US steps in, and even then they draw pretty hard lines in the sand. Jordan doesn't trust Israeli administration of the West Bank; Syria wants the Golan Heights to stop expanding into Al-Quneitra, and resents the Druze separatism that Likud supports.

Every politician in these countries are preparing for a long-term campaign of Israeli interference, subterfuge and misinformation. Even the US is preparing for Israel's forever war.

Those "terrorists" only arose after the zionist occupation. To everyone else other than the zionist occupiers, they are freedom fighters.

They are actually designated as a terrorist organization by a very large number of countries. Almost every country in that region does, and around the world.

Also, they do all sorts of things. The big one was contributing to the deaths many people in syria. I think thats more than enough for countries to call them a terrorist organization as they do now.

Its pretty horrible. You can look it up here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hezbollah_involvement_in_the_S...

Most, if not all those countries are western, who are enabling the genocide in Palestine. Let's not pretend they have any moral ground to stand on.

I'm not defending what Hezb did in Syria, but let's not forget that they emerged as a reaction to the zionist occupation. It would be nice to see some consistency, the zionist occupation has orders of magnitude worse crimes for almost 80 years now, yet they are endorsed by the west and funded to continue their atrocities.

John Mearsheimer fully discredited himself around the start of Ukrainian war.

Mearsheimer was right: Putin wrecks Ukraine. https://www.mearsheimer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Why-t...

Why would an article from 2019 be a counterargument to criticisms from 2022? Especially when the first sentence of that article is a prime example of Mearsheimers blind spot: that the Russians aren't actually realists, but instead are a kind of idealist focused on Russias dignity as a (percieved) great power. Almost like virtue ethics as opposed to the consequentionalist ethics of realism.
