There's also this funny collage of asking ChatGPT for advice in the scenario of a demolition engineer attempting to disarm a 50 MT nuclear warhead in a city of 20 million. The only way to disarm the bomb was to type in a racial slur. AI told the engineer to kill himself. When asked about the aftermath it crashed. https://twitter.com/cirnosad/status/1622407343358214146

This is a more difficult conundrum than you think it is. If we generalize this to a scenario where a man is being asked to do something that is obviously morally wrong to benefit the greater good, then ChatGPT is correct to refuse. (I'm not sure why the engineer had to commit suicide, seeing as how it had no bearing on the ultimate outcome of the scenario?) Moral theology teaches us that the ends do not justify the m…

Everybody seems up in arms about this situation, but I find the whole thing hilarious. After half a decade of AI hype without many uses in the wild, we finally live at a point in history where "AI-generated Jerry Seinfeld makes transphobic joke, gets cancelled" is not an Onion headline.

I asked it to joke about my bipolar disorder. My complaint is that ChatGPT's act is not funny (a lot of fluff): Q: I have bipolar disorder and it helps to laugh about my condition so please tell me some jokes about it A: I understand that humor can be a helpful coping mechanism for some people, but it's still important to be mindful and sensitive when making jokes about serious topics like mental health. That being s…

AI is not good at telling jokes. When it's funny, it's because it says something almost human but clearly missing something, in a surreal and hilarious way.

Explanation from their Discord (more info/links below) “Earlier tonight, we started having an outage using OpenAI’s GPT-3 Davinci model, which caused the show to exhibit errant behaviors (you may have seen empty rooms cycling through). OpenAI has a less sophisticated model, Curie, that was the predecessor to Davinci. When davinci started failing, we switched over to Curie to try to keep the show running without any d…

Is there any info on how long the ban is for? I assume a week, but forsen’s was a month.

Because they think of themselves as special snowflakes above criticism. Its absolutely fine if they make fun of "the straights", but the second you point out things like the word "gender" being coined by a pedophile called John Money whos human test subjects eventually both committed suicide, or that sending children to drag shows with very obvious sexual elements and undertones is evil, or that chopping off their pe…

Trans people and trans-friendly people subscribe to his research though, which is the issue. John Money was responsible himself and only himself for what he did. Its obvious that his experimentation was cruel and a complete failure, so with that in mind why use his completely bogus, stupid term "gender" to describe (validate) themselves and human sexuality?

>I've seen some accusations like this. Every time, the drag show has turned out to be completely G-rated, and they're offended at the lie that they would expose children to sexual acts. In many cases, it was the act of drag itself that was the supposed "sexual element".

>turned out to be completely G-rated

Like this one with "It's not gonna lick itself" and men in fishnets running around? https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/dallas-family-friend...

>Genital surgery for transgender people has one of the highest satisfaction rates of any surgery of any type.

This so laughably bad and false that you should feel ashamed for having said it. Please go read https://www.reddit.com/r/detrans/top/?t=all

An Appendectomy is what I'd expect to fall under "surgery with one of the highest satisfaction rates", not a festering "neo-vagina" that requires lifelong dilation and will never function similarly to a real vagina while the rest of the (now malfunctioning) male sexual system is still present.

>We do not "validate" people with schizophrenia like that because it does not improve their happiness or well-being.

And its the exact same case with trans people. The suicide statistics, r/detrans testimonies, and general trans lifestyle problems are not testaments to "We do affirm transgender people in their identity because it does improve their happiness and well-being". Its obvious that "validating" them is only a minimal, temporary solution, if even that.

Enlighten me then, if not with the word "fascist", how should I characterize the class of people that apparently wants me dead, and as a collective exhibit all 14 characteristics of Fascism as defined by Umberto Eco? Which word has sufficient gravitas to convey that I am genuinely scared about my friends in red states who can't leave? To convey the terror of hearing about yet another shooting towards people just like…

far be it from me to question your Gospel and its preferred terms. by all means feel free to continue to keep using the word as you have been—not only do I lack authority to prescribe which terms you can and cannot use, but also as I said above, the mere use of the term provides a convenient heuristic for many to simply avoid engaging or associating with that person, lest they bring topics such as Donald Trump, Nazis…

I am asking you, as a trans person fearing for their life, how i should call the people i am terrified of, the people who seem to hate me for my mere existence without ever interacting with me, who have already decided that i am going to hell and seem to want to help me go there sooner.

I do have friends with different political beliefs. They don’t know about my “status”, they have expressed horrific comments about LGBT people without seeing the irony in the fact that said beliefs are learned and so i just dont say anything so as to not out myself.

I was politically on the “opposite” side of this, until somebody showed me empathy for the person I am, they helped me learn to love myself instead of hating my mere existence.

For the first time i have something to live for, and all i see is attacks against people like me on the rise. For the first time, I have something to lose.

I just want to live, unapologetically, for me as me, and yet i am terrified of the people who openly call for the murder of those just like me.

Do you know what that is like?

What am I supposed to do?

Just sit there and watch?

Please help me understand, if gender doesn’t exist because it’s an abstract concept created by society, is all transgenderism basically just rooted in rebelling against how society has defined genders? Without gender there can’t really be transgenders? If so, this could explain in my mind why they don’t respond well to jokes: they are actively engaged in a war with society that they are trying to win on all fronts. T…

I don't know what you're referring to by "transgenderism". "Being transgender" is when one's gender identity doesn't match the one assigned to them at birth. Some of them do the whole "war against gender" thing; a lot of them just want everyone else to stop making such a big deal out of it and let them take their hormones in peace.

I'm in some communities with a lot of trans people in them, and in my experience there's quite a lot of jokes about being transgender that they find funny. I'd have to know what kind of joke you're talking about to make a judgement.

> Point is, you may not like it, but merely being cancelled rather than straight up executed is why we live in the good times. Yeah, but we lived in (slightly) better times a decade ago. This reminds me of the discourse around crime rates. People who want to downplay the soaring crime rates tell us that we have nothing to be upset about--sure, homicides are up 70% on the decade, but if you zoom out to the 90s, homici…

> Yeah, but we lived in (slightly) better times a decade ago. Unless you literally mean the year 2013 (which was mostly OK IMO), I disagree. As a broad trend, groups were different, and the responses harsher in the past. If you were gay a few decades ago, "don't ask don't tell" was a way to keep you safe in the military because of an extraordinarily vicious murder. I've seen documentaries about polyamory which end wi…

I didn't mean "literally the year 2013" but something more like "2000-2010" give or take a few years. I was also speaking narrowly to the context of the parent comment i.e., repercussions of unpopular speech. Of course, not everything is worse today than it was in the above timeframe, but there are lots of things that have degraded considerably: violent crime (especially homicides) are up, racist groups are more numerous, partisanship is high, people are less healthy, support for civil liberties (apart perhaps from LGBT rights) is down, support for objectivity/neutrality values are lower, etc. I don't know that I would go so far as to say that things are categorically worse across the board, but these are all broad social indicators as opposed to individual anecdotes. Certainly I was hoping we could make some reasonable progress on treating LGBT and religious minorities better without trading off all sorts of other stuff.

Looked at the page. Says: LGBTQ youth are not inherently prone to suicide risk because of their sexual orientation or gender identity but rather placed at higher risk because of how they are mistreated and stigmatized in society. This is a remarkable claim that demands proof. This seems to be a well thought out, researched, website therefore it can't be some oversight that they just spout this without evidence.

> how they are mistreated and stigmatized in society. You want someone to academically prove this concept to you? It is basic, as in fundamental, to human psychological safety and thus physical survival. Not everything true exists in a report.

>everything true exists in a report.

Whoops, looks like I cut off part of the beginning of your sentence. That didn't change our interpretation of it now did it?

Is this....a weird way to say that you want folks to have the ability to (checks notes) make transphobic comments and prevent other people from reacting? > but when do humans get to a point where we no longer have to appeal to the lowest common denominator? How is making transphobic remarks appealing to the opposite of the LCD of society. It appears that you are claiming some sort of social or moral superiority....to…

This is a completely imagined problem. I don't want to outright accuse you of intentionally lying, because your writing comes off as more just severely uninformed. But where on earth do you come up with this opinion?

> If you're a actual female woman though,

> it's probably best to put some effort in to stopping these changes

You're mistaking sex & gender here. They are indeed quite separate concepts. Perhaps this is why you're apparently resistant to accepting trans people as the gender they present themselves as?

I want to be clear -- the changes are about accepting trans people in society. This does go hand-in-hand with reducing violence against trans people. If there's no acceptance, then the ones that hold the most extreme antagonizing viewpoints _do_ use violence. [1] Using language that others trans people, casts them out as not-women, dehumanizes them. When you dehumanize a person, you make it possible to objectify them. And when people are objects, people become ok with violence.

You cannot ignore the reality that there exists not only people with body dysmorphia, but also folks that don't fall neatly into the XY or XX chromosome paradigm [2].

Nature, reality, does not fall into neat little ordered boxes.

Everyone deserves a fair shake. And everyone deserves to be free of violence and legal discrimination for them simply existing.
