It's just plain fraud. LLMs are hallucinatory, this is a basic fact of their basic design. You can't have them write product descriptions especially in advertisements , without any human supervision. If the LLM invents a product feature that doesn't exist, you have advertising fraud done fraud . And if the LLM un-invents a feature that does exist, you have done fraud and pissed off the advertiser. To not have these r…

Well. If you were a for profit company and were offered to get the most effective ads ever at the cost of 0.1% of advertisement containing falsehoods about your product, would you take it? What about if you know your competitors are taking the offer?

You would need to ensure the legal death penalty will significantly outperform the conversion rate.

It’s good to know that Google search will essentially be useless for me moving forward.

I'm Danish so maybe that's part of it, but if I'm looking for something like kid's lunch boxes that aren't essentially from Temu resale sites I was already using LLM chat clients to find it. I can search for google and find nothing, or I can use a non-login on chatgpt and get several options. It found me some French made lunchboxes that are being made by a car company (I think it was renault but I honestly can't reme…

LLM search will be ruined the exactly same way, just faster. Google search used to be good, until the company concluded they will earn more money by making it crap. Then it took some time for it to get worst, bit by bit.

With LLM, the same company will learn from previous experience and make it worst faster. It is exactly the same company, making exactly the same product (search), with exactly the same management and being subject of exactly the same market forces.

The result will be exactly the same, they will just get there faster.

Why would AI ads be unmarked? Most of the Google AI search results I get show sources. They're just summarizing top results for you, injecting a ad shown as an ad into that isn't tremendously different than how Google worked before.

For the same reason that ads in reddit comments are unmarked. The law hasn't caught up yet. There are countless "guerilla marketing" campaigns across reddit that are not identified as ads. I expect AI will be no different and it'll take the law a decade+ to catch up.

Every ad in Reddit is clearly marked. I'm not being obtuse - obviously Reddit, the internet, magazines, TV, all do some form of subliminal advertising, astro turfing, paid placement, etc, but we're talking about two different things from Google's business perspective, and I still doubt they are as interested in the latter as they are being the search leader and putting well paying clients right up front in bold (and underlined) letters.

I really don't get why 1CB isn't more common than it is. The obvious answer is "patents", but software patents aren't valid in Europe; and besides, the Amazon patent has expired; and European stores are, if anything, far, far more horrendous than American ones. I guess upsells are more profitable than one-click these days?

I find galaxus.com (European store) far better than any other store, American or otherwise.

- 7 day (or even longer) delivery time

- only free shipping >€50

- much more limited selection of items

- can't say much about their return / warranty process but I doubt it's as lenient as Amazon's

Pretty much the opposite of "far better".

Me, too. I love that they have tables with return and warranty percentages so you can see which products other people kept and which products only keep breaking.

I won't be able to use their AI results if they are, personally. If I ask the question "what is the best tool for doing x" and I can't trust that the answer is going to be the truth according to all available information, then the AI is useless or worse, misleading. If google is unbiased, and only highlights paid advertiser mentions, no one will pay. I'd only accept this if it was a clear separation of LLM response a…

There is no “true answer given all available infomation” maybe unless you give an eval function.

Came here to say this. The tools I use are best for me currently, but I would never argue that they're the best for everyone. Likewise the best tools for most people are probably not the best ones for me. Context is everything.

If search or AI or whatever can suggest a few decent tools I haven't tried that are somewhat within range, I can try them and decide for myself.

They seem to have been actively making search worse for at least a decade. No surprise they made it worse, that's [seemingly] what they were trying to do. They presumably were doing it to increase "engagement". More time spent getting infuriated with their worsening search meant more time seeing their ads. They deserve to go under. Meanwhile 1 minute unskippable ads on 30s YouTube videos, pop-ups on mobile that cover…

Wow. Disgusting. The decline of the west in a nutshell.

I guess the google bot is now on by blocked list. There should be a public corporation, like Wikipedia, that starts scraping the Web and provides an api for anyone to access.

But does Google actually 'own' the index? Have they acted anticompetitively as far as that goes?

That's a very good question that few people consider. Here is the answer: https://knuckleheads.club/how-google-distorts-the-market/
