Containment led to russia launching hundreds of iranian designed drones at Ukraine evey day.

Trump could EASILY increase US support to Ukraine. He could have even done what France was flirting with, which was deploying boots on the ground in defensive positions as a "red line". Bringing up Ukraine/Russia is not in good faith. You know this, you know that democrats have called for aggressively arming Ukraine and never wanted this dumb Iran war. Trump isn't "strong" until he actually calls Putin's bluff on nuc…

Trump probably withdrew funding from Ukraine to fund Israel instead, simple as.

The alternative is it just destroy all their oil infrastructure and wait for the regime to collapse from lack of funds. But Trump doesn't want to do that (or let Israel do it) because he dreams of taking all that oil for himself and his buddies like in Venezuela.

This gets downvoted and ignored in every thread I see, not just on this website. But how is this not obviously the answer? We know Russia and China are funneling money to Iran so it would be a double win to drain their coffers too. Morality aside, I just don’t see how this has been ignored. I know there is a large push for peace by many of the leaders of Iran and it turns out decentralized power can be a double-edged…

Morality aside, I don't see how we'd benefit from this. I do see how Israel would benefit, that's why they keep pushing us to do it.

I believe IDF accepts foreign volunteers if they are Jewish. I could be wrong. If you are a jew, you can join now. You don't have to wait for the USA to send troops.

I volunteered on the condition that they send Gal Gadot to train me. After I signed all the papers, Netta Barzilai showed up on my doorstep!

Iran will never surrender because US/Israel proved themselves unequivocally to be brutal savages that will torture, rape and kill you if you surrender. There is literally no point in surrendering to a barbarian horde.

Germany and Japan surrendered and have done pretty well since.

Completely different geopolitical scenario. If USA exterminated Germans/Japanese then their Soviet/Communist neighbors would fill in the power/population gap.

It's also worth mentioning that the Germans and Japanese themselves were extremely brutal to their defenseless, surrendered neighbors that they attempted to colonize.

Yes, Israel and the US are the "barbarian" horde. Definitely not the country that slaughters protestors by the thousands. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025%E2%80%932026_Iran_massacr... There's so many people here who have clearly lost their ability to think clearly any time Israel is involved. I'm sure it's just coincidence though and nothing else is going on.

Personally I don't trust the (real, actual) barbarian horde when it tries the ole switcheroo and projects barbarism, without evidence, onto its victims.

"The baby I just sniped in the head was a confirmed Hamazbollah IRGC terrorist." Sure, buddy. Hasbara is for losers.

Thanks for the history corrections and clarifications. Now I'll never forget that Mme. curie isolated polonium (another nearly-useless factoid). History is important but not as important as science. Still you're looking more and more like Frank Drebin: "Nothing to see here, folks, move along!" https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=google.... ben_w: "You're taking a comic book plot device as evidence?"…

> History is important but not as important as science. Bullshit. Without historical data, you can't recreate experiments!

esseph sez "Bullshit. Without historical data, you can't recreate experiments!"

Why bother posting such nonsense?

Being against genocide is good actually.

falsely accusing a people of committing a genocide is bad actually

You guys think one side is better than the other. But from outside, everyone sucks.

Sarcasm noted, but you were mixing up something that wasn't isolated by Curie because it was too hard to do so, with someth…

OK, so you seem the proper nerd to ask something I've been wondering for a long, long time: the world has tons of nuclear weapons. Each consists of at least one fission component and an optional thermonuclear component. Let's concentrate on the fission part. Q. Would it be possible to economically move the fission component into a standardized nuclear reactor that could then generate electrical power? IOW is there a…

Weapons-grade uranium is easy to blend down into lower grades. Once you've got all the safety protocols you need because nobody wants to risk the theft of the weapon part, the down-blending process is just "break apart the metal and keep in small chunks so nothing gets close to critical while you do this, mix with similar sized chunks of depleted or natural uranium, melt, stir".

Plutonium is its own special thing, and I don't know much about its use in reactors: while it's definitely possible to use as reactor fuel, I can't speak to the cost or effort required. Apparently plutonium is a PITA when it comes to metallurgy, but while this makes it hard to process into a weapon, I don't know if it also makes it hard to process back to fuel.

It isn't a proxy discussion though. It is the same discussion.

Yes. The point is that every random going-on gets used as an excuse to rehash the entire conflict from 1947 onwards, and a lot of people are just not interested in that, and don't consider it relevant to the site.

It’s a rehash of a conflict from abut 3000 BCE onwards. Who really is the “historical people” of the land that is now Palestine/Israel has been the subject of bloody conflict for 5000 years.

So theoretically, Russia could begin converting their nuclear warheads to heat-generation units that could be used for all sorts of purposes. What kind of safeguards would be required?

The Russkies have lots of nukes but no cash. They're apparently as money-illiterate as I am, which is pretty awful. But if converting warheads to "heaters" (for everything from heating to power generation) would be worth a fortune, then it might be enough to rebuild Russia's economy.

Furthermore, it might be a way to save OpenAI by creating cheaper power supplies for AI datacenters [just kidding about this last one - always like to get the AIers excited, see if their stocks rise!].
