Take screens for example. Sure OLED is nice (if it won’t burn in or have terrible PWM on low brightness), but most of them in past years couldn’t afford custom resolution with great DPI: 220-250.

No, those fuckers will install you either full hd or 4k resolution which is only good for movies.

In every other case you’ll need to use fractional scaling that will make your UI, fonts, what have you look like blurry shit.

The list goes on for battery life (google how many milliwatts apple consume during sleep), performance (full regardless whether they are plugged-in), etc.

Mind you, I would love to see apple-quality hardware with linux on it.

The only downside is that you have to run macOS

It’s ok.

I’m even very content with Windows in desktop using komorebi tiling manager. And macos compared to windows is still far ahead regardless of recent constant shittification.

Ah sorry, I must be thinking of the Apple of 2025 that still hasn’t added USB-A to their laptops (even though my Framework has 2) and expects me to carry a dongle everywhere, because after all, it’s my fault for not completely rearranging my world to do what Apple wants.

Or I must be thinking about the Apple of 2025 that rolled out Liquid Glass, an OS so disastrously bad I have to toggle accessibility settings just to make it usable.

I’m pretty comfortable saying modern Apple has had a sad and shitty fall from its peak.

Worth noting that even Framework's own desktop has soldered-on RAM, for exactly this reason

And that was even after constructive cooperation with amd. Now think about the more common, hostile, interaction many suppliers provide.

That’s why I specifically told what I meant: it is not about being able to swap SSD, but that for at least 5-7 years you will be able to repair it (expensively). Moreover in basically every corner of the earth there will be either authorised service or local one that will help you if soak your laptop in thailand or what have you.

You can't swap the SSD on a macbook?

China and EU have mandated usb-c for all rechargeable devices, for many years. Usb-a is legacy, together with vga, parallel printer ports and other old and bulky connectors, such connectors should require adapters. This is a good thing.

That’s why apple laptops are using usb-c.

I don't really use ethernet, or an audio jack, or an SD card reader regularly. I just use wifi and bluetooth, and I suspect most people do as well.

You can also just keep the extra dongles in your backpack and plug them into any open USB-C ports, or just unplug the dongles to free up more USB-C ports as needed.
