I see. However that misses the point of always having the function at hand, 24/7/365. There will be the off time when you remove the watch to charge it for instance, or times when it may be inconvenient to wear a watch.

Your use case would be another product, likely with a different audience.

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember when microcassette voice recorders were a fad, and pretty much everyone found they just weren't worth it. Psychologically there's a sort of information hoarding aspect to this. I think a lot of people experience this with browser tabs, where they don't want to read something right now, but also don't want to just abandon it. They really were worth it if you had a secretary to transcribe the voice recordings.

Yes. I'm not bothered about the latest thing, and every phone I've replaced has been because of two things: the battery has degraded until it's unacceptable, or it no longer gets OS updates.

I bet it is the case, not because it is frowned upon, but because tpeople have less money, the prices of phone increased a lot and the increase of performance and usefulness is plateauing.

I understand your point but being safe is not an option

I just had to change the battery of my phone, and I wish that it would have been just a swap to do. Actually because it wasn't, I add to buy a temporary phone the time I needed to have the parts and the tools

Recently I rediscovered that this has been solved by a small notepad that fits in my pocket and a pen. Maybe I should get some VC money for that

why would a ring need a whole ass microphone and a non rechargable battery like yeah dude gotta have a $100 dongle you just throw away once in a while

if it's already compatible with the watch then why not just make it emit some sort of signal that turns on the watch's mic? or put the button on the watch itself?

If you want to have a meandering voice recording that lasts minutes, the friction to pull out your phone is less of an issue while you're out walking your dog. Sure, but these use cases do blend into one another. And I'm not sure how useful the device when only constrained to the very short end of the spectrum.
