Do agents.md files help coding agents?

I use the agent to create and maintain AGENTS.md, STATE.md, and ROADMAP.md or more. To captures architecture, coding standards, or constraints; persistent working memory; to tracks priorities and technical details. This can significantly reduce context loss. Keep updating them continuously rather than relying only on the model’s context window. Similar to readme for the humans?
