edit: Well, crap. I was wrong. Apologies! I guess we've obliterated two schools now. Ugh.
No, this is a different strike. Please read the NYT article you linked more carefully. > The Feb. 28 attack occurred the same day as a U.S. Tomahawk cruise missile struck a school in the city of Minab, several hundred miles away, killing 175 people. In the case of Lamerd, though, it involved a weapon that had been untested in combat.

Oh its from 2 days ago? Okay then, let's vote in the politicians that will drag us to war crimes and genocides with US and Israel - said no one.
You're welcome to review my commenting history; I'm by no means supportive of either administration nor the Iran War. (You'll find me, for example, noting Israel's campaign in Gaza is ethnic cleansing; https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46519718 ) edit: Strike the rest.
People are now joking about Iran deploying inflatable schools as decoy so to make US spent their bombs on those.

Boiling legitimate criticism of the USA funding of Israel to “of course the Jews stole it” is intellectually dishonest.

As disgusted as I am with Israel's action over the last 80 years, put the blame where it belong. 5k is far from nothing, it is more than enough in any country than subsidize higher education. Which is most of the world at this point.
I mean have you seen what US colleges cost?
This give a very different picture:

#55Is it ok now to call the US electorate suckers? "US Republicans consider health care cuts to fund Iran war" - https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/us-republicans-consider-he... A reminder Israel has both universal healthcare and tuition free university...and voted yesterday to give $255 million to ultra-Orthodox programs and institutions, including yeshivas...that actually refuse to engage in military conscription... ht…

It would have been a valid criticism if it mentioned US aid to Ukraine (which is far larger), or aid to Egypt or the aid by maintaining military bases in South Korea, Japan, Europe. But nothing of that was mentioned, only the Jewish state. Hence it is a good ol' antisemitism.

I want to say upfront that I'm absolutely not trying to say Spain should or even needs to join this silly war. But the US not being allowed to use the bases it pays and maintains for Spain makes it questionable why it does so in the first place. Iran is in fact a threat relevant to NATO considering most of it is/was within ballistic missile range. It's also a simple fact that Iran's manufacturing base has been suppor…
The base is not some favor to Spain. Who does Spain even need defending from? It is a means of regional power projection for the US, granted to them for free as a favor. They've been very ungracious guests lately.
"Who does Spain need defending from?" Nobody, because of the security architecture my tax dollars built. That's not evidence the bases are a favor to us. That's evidence they worked. You're welcome. And if they can't be used when it matters, I won't lose any sleep if they get closed.

"Granted to them for free"? The US has been paying Spain for base access since 1953. Hundreds of millions per renewal cycle in military aid, economic assistance, and direct spending. It was never free and it was never a favor. Spain negotiated compensation every time. "Who does Spain need defending from?" Nobody, because of the security architecture my tax dollars built. France? Portugal? Andorra??
The bases are a remnant of American imperialism, they serve no purpose but to further American interest. Any pretension they do anything else can only be explained as late imperial delusion of grandeur.
The fact the Spanish don't let you use them to engage in your unforced act of historic self harm can be seen as yet another favor.
