While I appreciate that and I've been working on it, it seems that whatever I do I just see more evidence for it - the $70k wage cut to not associate with people like me, the significantly lower social class and standard of living people like me have all weighs on me pretty heavily these days.

While I appreciate that and I've been working on it, it seems that whatever I do I just see more evidence for it - the $70k wage cut to not associate with people like me, the significantly lower social class and standard of living people like me have all weighs on me pretty heavily these days.

If you ever made it to Google, you'd immediately see the stratification within. The elites with their lake houses... the people operating at levels you never will be able to... the people bailing to start startups because Google got boring.

Fuck it and be happy. And while you're working on it, you should consider no longer voicing your negative thoughts. It definitely doesn't help, and there's a good chance it makes it worse. (Or don't, I'm not telling you what to do obviously)

Under US law, 'one drop of blood' is sufficient to count as nonwhite. Might be an outgrowth of puritanism, I'm not sure.

"One drop" is not and was never federal law in the US[1].

Perhaps, but I don't think there are even elites at my company with lake houses that they can invite me to for team events - even our directors say they can't afford to vacation in the Hamptons or buy Herman Miller chairs (whereas going to the Boss's $10M house for whisky tasting is seemingly common at Google).

It's not about you. It's about amazon and their treatment of you. I've worked with exceptional engineers who did a tour in Amazon and I have nothing but respect for the people who work there. But I would never work for Amazon because of the abusive PIP culture (and the leadership principles shite omfg).

Cheer up. And if you're not happy there, move on to a place with a name you're proud of.

I honestly would, just because of how we seem to be perceived by the labor market (considering I make less than a Google new grad as a SDE2) but otherwise I don't really have any complaints. Sadly, I think I've reached my peak intellectual potential, and even that was through an easy way (doing an internship and getting a conversion offer). I'd never be able to pass Google HC, and haven't before because I simply don't have the IQ required to do so.

But I wanted to point out one thing about these programs I find funny is while the candidates races may be diverse their educational background is usually quite similar. A program at my work is very similar, and the majority of students went to the top ten CS schools.

The education system’s admission criteria is heavily correlated with the hiring criteria, even without taking the prestige of their degrees into the account.

Using an anecdote from one person doesn't actually prove the point you made in the first line. If you can find repeated cases of over-reactions from Googlers over multiple months/years, then you might have evidence to support your argument.

The James demore event is another data point here. His "misogynist manifesto" basically said that google should implement policies that make the workplace better for everyone not just women or whatever minority. I believe one suggestion was to be more flexible with work hours and work from home. This policy helps everyone but has the biggest impact on mother's.
