It's also why I didn't by consoles anymore since the PS2. The PS2 was awesome and the backwards compatibility to PS1 games got me hooked. However, I have no desire to buy 3 new consoles every 6-7 years that don't support my previous collection of old games. If the PS5 had backwards compatibility all the way to the PS1, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but since it doesn't, I won't buy it.

How usable is PS4 without internet connection? I'd buy one (maybe used) if it is.

You put discs in and play games. From that perspective you don’t need an internet connection.

However, if you want to play blu ray movies, you need to connect it to the internet to download a license. Sadly.

Executives in big company cutting costs for whatever is not making immediate profit. One of those moments when you come to understand how out of touch they are with their audience. Gamers are nostalgic breed and PS1/2/3 made many childhood memories. Nintendo knows to capitalize on their history far better than Sony or Microsoft.

Exactly, it's because Nintendo is a Toy-maker (in a good sense), but Microsoft and Sony are Technology Corporations, just look at that PlayStation Classic BS, they cannot even copy Nintendo.

Dude, it was 9 years and two console generations ago. They had a serious security breach and it was pretty bad, for sure, and the service stayed down for a while. But Sony is not the first company to have a security breach. And under the circumstances, they did the right thing: shutting the service down entirely until it could be fixed was clearly the right call, but it was also clearly a very difficult call to make.…

And for the last 9 years I didn't buy any Sony anythings and I didn't get screwed by anything. Including this, because I already wrote them off a decade ago. Fool me once, etc. There's no coming back from a 23 day outage. Your comment is especially ironic considering the games you mention are among those that are no longer listed.

I've spent the last 9 years buying TONS of Sony games and products, and I also have not been screwed by anything! In addition, I've gotten to play an absolutely incredible array of games, including some of the greatest games of all time.

You should let go of this grudge.

Old games never really benefit the corps, it is the hot new games that get all the attention.

As for hot new 'old games' I may recommend enjoy free multi-platform games by Retroguru devs[0,1], especially their "Hermes"[2] game.

Erm, I think it’s the exact opposite? People want you to learn about history so we don’t make the same mistakes

I think what he meant was that people will dig thru your history to find stuff that (they find) is no longer socially acceptable and cancel you.

Does "cancelling" even work against corporations? I'm finding it hard to think of any corporation that went away because they stopped being cool.

Plenty of corporations went under because they no longer had a product-market fit, that's for sure :-)

Exactly, and you could also add to this the current "trend" of Age of Empires, Warcraft, Command and Conquer.
